Ready to resume training: miracle recovery of United’s sensational youngster will be music to Amorim’s ears – report

Manchester United could be set for some good news on the injury front once the international break ends if recent reports are to be believed.

Ruben Amorim suffered a major blow when Ayden Heaven had to be stretchered off against Leicester City in the last game before the break.

The 18-year-old looked in visible pain as he dropped down to the ground and at that moment it looked like it could be a serious injury.

With Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro sidelined, the head coach was fretting due to the lack of alternatives for the left-sided centre-back position.

Heaven back?

But The Manchester Evening News have now revealed that the former Arsenal starlet is now out of his protective boot and there is a decent chance of him resuming training once the international break ends.

And with United not in action before April 1, Heaven could be back in contention for minutes for the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.

“The Manchester Evening News understands that Heaven is now out of his protective boot and has a chance of resuming training after the international break.

“United do not have a fixture until they face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday April 1, potentially giving the former Arsenal man enough time to recover.”

Great news for Amorim

The January signing has made four appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, including starting the last two games. And he has looked a class apart.

While his senior teammates were fumbling against the Foxes, the 18-year-old stood like a rock while his calmness under pressure stood out.

Amorim will be delighted if Heaven can return early as he has very few options at the back given Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire are also out injured.

April is a huge month for the club with the 20-time English league champions having huge games both in the English top-flight and in Europe and the head coach needs all the help he can get.

Man Utd blasted for ‘monster’ transfer ‘mistake’ with Ratcliffe decision to ‘get rid’ of ‘£50m’ talent wrong

A pundit has explained why Manchester United made a “monster mistake” when they “got rid” of Scott McTominay during last summer’s transfer window.

Scotland international McTominay left Man Utd to join Serie A giants Napoli for a fee of around £25m with add-ons.

Man Utd chiefs sanctioned his exit after he was one of their better performers in a poor season in 2023/24 as INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his recruitment looked to offload unwanted talents to raise funds.

United’s decision to sell McTominay looks foolish in hindsight as the 28-year-old has shone under Antonio Conte in Serie A. He has been used in an advanced role and has eleven goal involvements in his 31 appearances across all competitions.

In November, McTominay explained why it was a “quite straightforward” decision to leave Man Utd for Napoli.

“It was a big decision, but in some ways it was quite straightforward. I saw the passionate [Napoli] fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players and I saw an opportunity,” McTominay said in an interview with BBC Scotland.

“I took it. I didn’t look back. It didn’t take me long to make the decision because I knew that was what I wanted and I’ll never have any regrets in my life. As soon as I put my mind to something I want to do it, that’s it. There’s no holding me back.”

Now, pundit Pat Nevin has questioned Man Utd’s decision to cash in on McTominay amid his “spirit” and “time” running out for two Red Devils stars.

“I think Scott McTominay was worth £50 million before he left Manchester United. It was a monster mistake by United,” Nevin said.

“After what he’d been doing for Scotland after that period he’d had in the team for Manchester United when he suddenly was moved a lot farther forward and showed what he’s good at in his best position.

“But apart from anything else from United, he was showing the spirit every single time we walked on that pitch that that club needs, that that club doesn’t have to be anywhere near the level they want.

“You’ve got Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, fabulous players in their time, but their time’s coming up and you’re getting rid of McTominay? That’s just finance. That’s nothing else.”

United want to bring back prolific former Man City forward to PL, deal to cost €35m – report

Manchester United are interested in Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, as per reports.

Three years after joining Barcelona from Manchester City, Torres is finally starting to look like a reliable forward in LaLiga, capable of consistently troubling opposing defences.

The Spaniard, who is capable of playing all across the frontline, initially struggled to replicate his impressive City form at Camp Nou. But now, Hansi Flick is making the most of his intelligent movement and versatility.

The 25-year-old has managed to score 13 goals and register three assists in 32 appearances in all competitions this term.

His attacking contributions have sparked suggestions he could potentially return to the Premier League.

Manchester United interested in Barcelona star Ferran Torres

According to Fichajes, United are among a number of English sides “strongly” interested in signing Torres in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have struggled to consistently get on the scoresheet under Ruben Amorim, who could do with a versatile forward capable of spearheading his side’s attack as well as creating for his teammates as a wide playmaker.

Given his history in the blue half of Manchester, it remains to be seen how he would react to United’s possible approach.

At this point, however, Aston Villa are leading the race for his signature, as per the Spanish outlet, who claim that Liverpool are also monitoring the Barca star.

The Blaugrana, meanwhile, are understood to be open to listening to offers for their in-form forward.

Due to their financial predicament, Barcelona would consider his exit if they receive a fee in the region of €35 million.

United themselves are facing financial concerns due to the Premier League’s PSR and might fancy an opportunity to sign a brilliant Premier League-proven forward for a relatively bargain fee.

United in “concrete talks” with one of world’s most coveted strikers, a deal could happen fast – report

Manchester United are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs that are in contact with the representatives of Lille striker Jonathan David over a free move in the summer.

David has cemented his reputation as one of the most deadly strikers in Europe during his time with Lille, scoring 107 goals in 224 appearances across all competitions.

Last term, David netted 26 goals in 47 matches, including 19 in Ligue 1, to help Les Douges secure Champions League football via the playoffs.

So far this term, the Canadian has managed an impressive tally of 23 goals and 10 assists in 41 matches. His contract with Lille expires in the summer and the player himself made it clear he has no intention of renewing it as he wants to make the step-up to a bigger club.

In addition to United, Barcelona and West Ham have also strongly been linked to David. However, he has more admirers both from England and abroad.

Now, French news outlet le10sport reveals that three Premier League teams are “trying to seize” the opportunity to land a talisman of David’s class on a free.

“To date, the player’s representatives are in concrete talks with three clubs. According to our sources, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United are at the table.”

“While many other teams, both in France and abroad, have expressed interest, only these three clubs are currently in active and concrete negotiations to sign Jonathan David.”

It was recently stated that David prefers a switch to La Liga.

le10sport dispute this argument, relaying that the 25-year-old is “clearly leaning towards a move to England.”

But, a final decision has yet to be made and whichever team presents him with the best sporting project and financial package will ultimately win the race for his signature.

In Germany, Borussia Dortmund are understood to be “trying to make a breakthrough” but United, Tottenham and Arsenal are more advanced in their respective pursuits.

Serie A giants have now changed their stance following exploratory contacts, United fans will be buzzing – report

Manchester United fans were expecting a lot when the club paid £36.5 million to Bologna to bring Joshua Zirkzee to Old Trafford last summer.

The Dutchman’s silky skills and an eye for goal had meant most were expecting the 23-year-old to come in and start banging in the goals for the Red Devils.

But the fans and former boss Erik ten Hag soon understood that the former Bayern Munich starlet was no ruthless goalscorer and was more of a linkup player, who seemed to have very little use in a counter-attacking system.

All of that culminated in a painful evening at Old Trafford when the home crowd jeered as he was substituted early against Newcastle.

Juve were eyeing Zirkzee

At that point in time, Juventus were pushing hard for his signing in January and all signs pointed towards an early separation in January.

But after some trial and error, Ruben Amorim figured out the Netherlands international’s best position and as a result, Zirkzee has been on fire in recent weeks.

He has five goals since the Portuguese tactician’s arrival and playing as an attacking midfielder has brought out the best in his game.

The Red Devils certainly do not want to lose the former Bologna ace anymore and Calciomercato have some good news on that front.

Thiago Motta, Zirkzee’s former coach at Bologna, was the one who was pushing for the United No 11 to join him in Turin but his own future seems far from certain at Juve.

The Bianconeri are mulling over making a change in the dugout following a disappointing season under Motta and they are now looking to sign a ruthless striker instead of a “nine-and-half”.

Moved on to other targets

As a result, Zirkzee is no longer the target and all focus is now on trying to sign Victor Osimhen of Napoli. Incidentally, he is also INEOS’ top priority in the summer.

“In recent months there have been exploratory contacts between the entourage of the Dutchman born in 2001 and Juventus, who have now changed their objective.

“Also because Thiago Motta risks being benched and is increasingly far from being confirmed for next season.

“In the meantime, the Bianconeri directors are looking for a striker who scores a lot of goals, returning to Allegri’s mantra on the simplicity of football. This explains Juventus’ renewed interest in Victor Osimhen.”

All this bodes well for United and Amorim who have really been impressed with the Dutch ace. And fans have also taken a real liking to the dazzling attacker and will be delighted to see him stay on.

Man Utd: Huge Ayden Heaven injury update surfaces with expected return match revealed

A new report claims Ayden Heaven’s injury is ‘not thought to be serious’ after the Manchester United youngster was forced off against Leicester City.

Heaven joined Man Utd from Premier League rivals Arsenal during the winter transfer window for around £1m.

The Red Devils appear to have got themselves a bargain as the 18-year-old has already made three senior appearances before his new club as he impressed before the international break.

Earlier this month, United head coach Ruben Amorim revealed what he “really likes” about the talented teenager.

“If he continues like that he is going to play,” Amorim said.

READ: Ratcliffe knows Manchester United must nail recruitment and Osimhen should be the start

“Of course he is young and he didn’t play much this season, maybe only 45 minutes for the Under-21s, then a few minutes here and now a full game.

“I really like his confidence. I like his pace, I think he is good in defending the box and I think he is quite complete.

“But he has a lot of work to do in the Premier League. We will face a different kind of player and he will be tested in a different kind of way, so we are trying to manage all of this because he is still really young.”

Man Utd and Heaven were dealt a potential blow before the international break as the centre-back was stretched off during his side’s 3-0 win against Leicester City.

Post-match, Amorim said: “It’s hard to know because we have to evaluate during the week.”

“Even when he was on the ground he cannot speak and doesn’t know to explain what he’s feeling because he’s so young.

“He already played well against Arsenal and Real Sociedad. Today for me was the most difficult game for him because we expect him to relax a bit, but he was so focused.”

Heaven subsequently added: “Thank you guys for all the support! I have read all your messages, and I’m doing really well and recovering fast.”

Now, a report from Manchester Evening News claims Heaven’s injury is not as severe as first feared.

‘The Manchester Evening News understands that Heaven is now out of his protective boot and has a chance of resuming training after the international break.

‘United do not have a fixture until they face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday April 1, potentially giving the former Arsenal man enough time to recover.’

Double delight for red-hot United star as he scoops up two coveted awards

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the club’s March Player of the Month prize.

It had to be him.

Fernandes has enjoyed a stellar month, scoring six goals and providing an additional two assists as Ruben Amorim’s men enjoyed a much-needed uptick in form.

The midfielder kicked off the month by scoring the equaliser in the FA Cup fifth-round meeting with Fulham. Ultimately, it didn’t count for much as United were dumped out of the competition in a penalty shootout, with Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee both missing from the spot-kick.

Fernandes also snatched a valuable point for United at Old Trafford against Arsenal, firing a sensational free-kick past David Raya at the stroke of half-time. This stunning strike has been named United’s Goal of the Month, securing Fernandes his second award.

But, perhaps Fernandes’ most impressive display of the month came in the second leg of the Europa League last 16 vs. Real Sociedad.

With the tie finely poised at 1-1, United faced a genuine threat of elimination, particularly after Sociedad took the lead 10 minutes in through Mikel Oyarzabal. However, Fernandes had different plans.

The skipper produced a hat-trick to secure United’s progression to the quarter-finals, where they will face Ligue 1 outfit Lyon after the ongoing international break.

Two of Fernandes’ goals were penalties while the third was a sumptuous finish to cap off a fantastic team move.

In the 3-0 victory at Leicester City last time out, he set up goals for both Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro  Garnacho before sealing the win with a powerful strike late on.

Fernandes’ standout display at the King Power Stadium earned him a place in both Alan Shearer’s and WhoScored.com’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Fernandes garnered 89% of the votes to win the March Player of the Month award, ending out Matthijs de Ligt (8%) and Casemiro (2%).

This is the second time in a row he’s claimed the accolade, having also won it in February by a landslide.

United plotting move for £70m midfielder, could be perfect Mainoo replacement – report

Manchester United are reportedly set to lock horns with Manchester City for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

Palace placed their trust in the Englishman’s potential in 2024, securing his services from Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth £22 million.

The 21-year-old took little time to find his feet in England’s top flight, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting defensive midfielders.

The England international has earned plaudits for his tactical intelligence, line-breaking passes, and ball-carrying ability. Further, he is capable of playing all across the middle of the park. His technical prowess and maturity have put him on the radar of both Manchester giants, as per a report.

According to TEAMtalk, United and City are “building towards a major transfer battle this summer” as they look to add Wharton to their respective ranks.

Both sides are monitoring the Palace star’s progress and believe he could “grow into the next Declan Rice.”

With veteran midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen expected to depart in the summer, United could do with a player like Wharton.

City, meanwhile, are in the process of rebuilding Pep Guardiola’s squad on the back of what has been a frustrating campaign.

However, it is going to be very difficult for the two sides to find an agreement with the Eagles, as Wharton is tied to the club until the summer of 2029.

It is understood that Wharton is valued at £70million by Palace — a sizeable fee for a midfielder who is still relatively inexperienced at the top level and has struggled with fitness issues this term.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils are yet to find an agreement with his representatives over a new deal.

Mainoo’s possible exit could hand United funds to make a high-profile midfield signing but such a development is likely to please the supporters.

“It’s not like I’m mocking him:” United star issues statement on Ronaldo controversy during international showdown

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has insisted he was not trying to make fun of Cristiano Ronaldo after he imitated his trademark “siu” celebration on Thursday evening.

After ending a 21-game goal drought during last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City, Hojlund was unlucky to be named on the bench for Denmark’s first-leg UEFA Nations League play-off clash against Portugal.

However, with the game delicately balanced at 0-0, Hojlund was thrust into the action in the 69th minute and he slotted home the deciding goal before copying Ronaldo’s celebration.

Ronaldo could only watch as the United No. 9 replicated his world-famous celebration.

After the final whistle, Hojlund cleared the air, confirming he was not at all trying to ridicule the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Hojlund told TV2 [via Fotbollskanalen], “I’m playing against the world’s best footballer, my idol, and to score a goal and win the match… it couldn’t be better.”

“It’s for my idol. It’s not like I’m mocking him or anything. I’ve just always said that he has a lot of importance to me and my football career.”

“It’s maybe a bit ambivalent, but scoring against him and Portugal is huge.”

“I was there and saw him in 2009 when he scored from a free kick and I’ve been a fan ever since.”

Hojlund previously revealed that he “fell in love” with football and United because of Ronaldo.

✨🇩🇰 Rasmus Højlund scores and hits the Sium celebration in front of Cristiano Ronaldo… as a tribute.

He said in old interview: “Cristiano is everything to me. I fell in love with football because of Cristiano, I became a Manchester United fan because of Cristiano, I started… pic.twitter.com/7lzPaa61XZ

The 22-year-old also took to Instagram and wrote, “The 7-year-old fan in me might’ve gotten the overhand after I scored.”

For United fans, the major positive is that Hojlund seems to be slowly growing in confidence, which bodes well for the team as they seek to clinch Europa League glory and climb up the table.

Official: United Women stalwart Millie Turner signs new deal until 2028

Manchester United Women stalwart Millie Turner has signed a new deal at the club until 2028.

The 28 year old has made 167 appearances for the team and she has been with United since the Women’s team returned in 2018.

She has scored 11 goals and has made the second most appearances for the team after Ella Toone.

The club’s official website announced “Manchester United is pleased to confirm that defender Millie Turner has signed a contract extension with the club until June 2028.”

“As one of the ‘originals’ who has been with the club since the formation of its women’s team in 2018, Turner was a key part of the sides that won the 2019 Women’s Championship title, earned UEFA Champions League qualification in 2023, and lifted the FA Cup for the first time last season.”

The experienced defender is still a key member of the team as she has made 16 league appearances this season in the heart of the defence.

Her manager Marc Skinner was delighted with the news and spoke glowingly of the experience and value that she adds to the culture of the squad.

He stated, “Millie has been here since the beginning, and she is an important part of the team. She’s part of my leadership group but I still think there is even more growth to come.”

“We have unfinished business and aspirations for success, she is hungry to keep improving and a key person in driving the high standards we have here as a club.”

Interim head of women’s football, Matt Johnson, also spoke enthusiastically of Turner’s “positive” attitude and that she will be “critical” to the club’s future success as she is one of the best centre backs in the league.

The signing of her deal will certainly go down as one of the most memorable for the club as she brought along her dog Pongo for the occasion, who was loving the attention of the photographers.

We are delighted to announce the signing of Pongo on a lifetime contract 🐶❤️

A special thanks to @MillieTurner_ for accompanying him on this special day 😅✍️#MUWomen pic.twitter.com/2UA5LK2Cze

— Manchester United Women (@ManUtdWomen) March 21, 2025

Turner will next be in action for the club this Sunday when the Red Devils face an away trip to Aston Villa.
