Man Utd ask for Prem striker with just three goals this season, as he ‘wants to leave’ rivals

Manchester United have reportedly made contact for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as he ‘wants to leave’ Everton, amid the advances of a number of sides.

United’s current crop of strikers are underwhelming at present. Joshua Zirkzee has three goals in 31 Premier League games this season, and Rasmus Hojlund has three in 26; he has been better in the Europa League, with five in 10, as well as three assists.

Overall, though, the pair have left a lot to be desired, and United have been linked with a few strikers. In February, it was reported they could consider the free agent market, with Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy mooted.

According to TBRFootball, the Red Devils ‘made contact’ for Calvert-Lewin, but nothing has gone any further as yet. There certainly is a chance of him becoming available on a free transfer, though.

The report states the Everton striker is ‘ready to leave’ despite the club’s hopes of handing him a new deal. It’s stated they haven’t given up hope of that, but they are yet to make progress.

Calvert-Lewin is said to be drawing attention from a few sides given a ‘player of his calibre’ is set to be available on a free in the summer. That said, he’s not been particularly effective in the last few years – his last 10-goal season coming four seasons ago, though he has been injured often since then.

This season, the Everton man is on just three goals in the Premier League, despite having started 19 games.

Still, the report suggests alongside United, Newcastle are interested, and West Ham and Nottingham Forest have both made enquiries.

There is also a chance that Tottenham go after him, as per the report, which suggests he could swap places with Richarlison, after it was revealed the Brazilian striker could be of interest to the Toffees, a club he left in 2022.

On the face of it, that would see two underwhelming strikers swap clubs, but Richarlison scored 53 goals in 152 games at Everton, and Calvert-Lewin has surpassed 13 Premier League goals in two separate seasons, so a change of scenery could be good for the pair.

That said, it’s not clear which side is best placed to land Calvert-Lewin at the moment.

United pushing to replace Antony with sensational 20-yo winger, preparing £64m bid – report

Manchester United have decided to replace Antony with Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, as per reports.

Antony has enjoyed an incredible turnaround in form since moving to Real Betis in the winter window.

The Brazilian winger has amassed four goals and as many assists in Spain so far. Most recently, he impressed with his electric showing against Barcelona, helping his side maintain their brilliant unbeaten streak in La Liga.

Despite his Spanish renaissance, the ex-Ajax man has supposedly no future at United.

According to Fichajes, United are “seriously” considering selling Antony this summer.

Betis are keen on retaining the 25-year-old’s services but they are unlikely to be in a position to meet United’s financial demands. In recent weeks, Atletico Madrid have emerged as a strong contender to sign Antony.

United, meanwhile, are looking to recoup a portion of the €95 million they spent on signing him back in 2022. Further, they have also earmarked his replacement.

The Spanish outlet claim United want to replace Antony with Gittens, who has made headlines with his pace and dribbling ability in the Bundesliga.

The England U21 is capable of playing on both flanks and has managed an impressive 12 goals and four assists in all competitions this season.

It is understood that United are “already planning €75m offer” (£64.1m) for Gittens, who moved to Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020.

The figure is certainly significant but United are thought to be “confident” that the 20-year-old winger is the right signing to replace Antony and improve their attack.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Englishman would like to leave Dortmund at the end of the season and has already informed the club’s hierarchy of his intentions.

United set to offload 26-yo star for peanuts, his replacement has already been identified – report

Manchester United are reportedly open to offloading goalkeeper Altay Bayindir during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Bayindir joined United in September 2023 from Fenerbahce, in a deal worth around £4.3m.

His appearances have been limited to cup competitions as he has been unable to displace Andre Onana despite the Cameroonian’s error-prone ways between the sticks.

Bayindir has yet to get a taste of Premier League football since arriving at Old Trafford. He has played six games this season across the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, it was suggested that Bayindir could look to leave United in search of regular first-team minutes elsewhere.

A return to Turkey has been mooted, with Galatasaray believed to be interested in him. However, it was stated that the 26-year-old is keen on staying at United and fighting for a starting berth.

Now, Stretty News reveal that the Red Devils are willing to sanction his sale for a fee in the region of £6-7 million.

It’s understood that Bayindir is not short of suitors. In addition to Premier League clubs, he also has admirers in La Liga and Serie A.

Stretty News add, “Bayindir’s lack of playing time did little to repel these suitors, as they still believe he has what it takes to replicate the superb displays he produced during his years at Fenerbahce, something he didn’t have the chance to do at Man Utd.”

“As for the Red Devils, our sources can confirm that INEOS have pinpointed Burnley’s James Trafford as the ideal profile to replace Bayindir.”

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United held talks about signing Trafford, who is on the brink of promotion to the Premier League with Burnley.

United are back in action on Thursday when they go away to Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. will certainly be hoping to be handed a start by Ruben Amorim as he looks to prove he has what it takes to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

“No doubt…”: PL manager demands club target United maestro this summer with INEOS open to exit

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has reiterated his wish to see Christian Eriksen join the Bees once the 33-year-old midfielder’s contract at Old Trafford expires this summer.

Last summer, Frank revealed the Manchester United midfielder would “always be welcome back” at Brentford after Eriksen enjoyed a successful six-month stint at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Danish international played a key role in steadying a sinking Brentford side in the 2021/22 season – the Bees’ debut campaign in the Premier League – after joining in the January transfer window on a free transfer.

The then-newly promoted side, who had appeared on the verge of collapse having lost the four previous league games before Eriksen joined, went on to win seven of the final eleven games to finish a comfortable 13th place, with the Dane producing a series of stand-out performances in central midfield.

Eriksen’s form was so impressive that it then earned him a move to United the following summer as his six-month deal with Brentford came to an end.

However, Eriksen could now be set to reverse this journey with the 33-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford set to expire this summer and acceptance from both sides that a new deal will not be offered.

The midfielder, who has also previously played for Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan, had been linked with a return to Amsterdam with De Godenzonen expressing interest in re-signing their former pupil.

But it appears Frank would love to see Eriksen return to the Gtech Community Stadium once again, suggesting to Danish media he was “open” to a reunion (as relayed by the Manchester Evening News).

“Christian is a fantastic player, probably the best Danish player in recent times, and I think we saw most recently against Portugal that he did really well, and he is still in a good place,” the Brentford manager revealed.

“There is no doubt that Christian wants to play some more. He had a fantastic time when he was with us. At least that’s how it was, from our side, and that’s what I know he’s expressed.

“I’m open to all players, and of course, there are lots of things that come into play whether someone comes in or not. But let me put it this way: Nothing is closed.”

On a free transfer, Eriksen has proved a rare piece of astute business at Old Trafford in recent years, even if he perhaps could have been sold last summer. He produced a brilliant debut season paired next to Casemiro, scoring four times and providing a further 10 assists.

In a long line of exorbitant spending and profligate transfers, the Dane was a positive contrast for United fans and can leave the club with his head held high. If he returns to Manchester next season wearing the red and white of Brentford, he can be assured of a warm reception from the Old Trafford faithful.

United Women v Chelsea rescheduled

0

Tuesday 08 April 2025 17:07

Manchester United’s upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League clash at home to Chelsea has been rescheduled for a new date.

The league meeting was due to take place at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 27 April, but has been moved due to the Blues’ UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona being added to the schedule for that weekend.

United v Chelsea will now be played three days later, on Wednesday 30 April, and kick off at 20:15 BST.

The match will be broadcast live from LSV in the UK on Sky Sports.

It’s set to be an intriguing late-season duel that will see two of the division’s top three sides go head-to-head, less than two weeks before the end of the campaign.

United currently occupy the third and final of the WSL’s Champions League places, and need two wins from our final four league matches to secure European football for next term – a feat that could be achieved against the Londoners.

Sonia Bompastor’s side lead the way at the top, six points ahead of the Reds, but a positive result in the upcoming encounter could also see us narrow the gap at the summit and set up a grandstand finish to 2024/25.

Before then, United have a massive FA Cup semi-final clash away to Manchester City this Sunday and are due to return to WSL action on the following weekend with a trip to West Ham.

After the battle with Chelsea, our league season is due to conclude in May, with an Old Trafford derby against City before a final-day visit to Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo pays tribute to ‘one of great names in football’ as iconic scout passes away

The Sporting scout who first spotted Cristiano Ronaldo has died, with the Portuguese star praising him as “one of the great names in world football.”

Aurelio Pereira spent decades at Sporting and is credited for discovering players such as Luis Figo, Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and Ronaldo.

His influence was most notable in 2016 when Portugal’s Euro-winning squad featured 10 players discovered by him.

The former player died at the age of 77 on Tuesday and Ronaldo was one of the first to pay tribute.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said: “One of the great names in world football has left us, but his legacy will live on forever.

“I will never stop being grateful for everything he did for me and so many other players. So long, Mr. Aurelio, thank you for everything. Rest in peace.”

A former Sporting player, Pereira took up coaching at Futebol Benfica before returning to Sporting to create and lead the Recruitment and Training Department.

The club said: “Sporting Clube de Portugal expresses its sorrow at the death of Aurélio da Silva Pereira, the unmistakable Mr Training, Member 3,226-0, who passed away this Tuesday at the age of 77.

“He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest names in the history of national football and, above all, in the history of Sporting Clube de Portugal.”

The Portuguese Football Federation said: “The death of Aurelio Pereira represents an irreparable loss for Portuguese Football.

“For history, in addition to the enormous legacy built by the man who discovered some of the best players in our history, there will be a kind person, of fine treatment and who always defended our talent.”

In 2012, a pitch at Sporting’s training ground was named after him.

Ronaldo joined Sporting’s academy at the age of 12 having impressed in a three-day trial.

Having made his way through Sporting’s youth teams, Ronaldo was promoted to the first team in 2002 and made his debut at the age of 17.

In 2003, he moved to Manchester United for a fee of £12million and would go on to win three Premier League titles, one Champions League and the 2008 Ballon d’Or before heading to Real Madrid.

Man Utd: Ex-Prem star demands ‘ruthless’ action after ‘stupid people’ abused City star Phil Foden

Arsenal legend Emanuel Petit leapt to the defence of abused Man City star Phil Foden today, referring to the chants he was subjected to during a 0-0 draw with Man City as a “disease” brought about by “stupid people”.

Foden, 24, was on the receiving end of derogatory chants from Man United fans on Sunday, primarily aimed at his mother, Claire Rowlands.

The 1998 World Cup winner, who made over 200 appearances for Monaco and scored 11 goals for Arsenal, made his feelings perfectly clear as he delivered a strongly worded statement on the “ruthless” action required to create a safer space for players.

The sinister chants weren’t quite the tip of the iceberg at Old Trafford, as news broke on Monday than Jack Grealish was subjected to an assault at the full-time whistle.

Petit believes the clubs have to take responsibility and make a strong statement in the way they deal with guilty supporters:

“Sometimes [they chant about] your mother, children [or about] your father who is dead. If I am Manchester United, I would be very hard on my own fans. I will say zero tolerance.

“You know you did that. We got the images. We have the proof you’ve done that. You’re out of the game, you’re out of the stadium.

“You don’t come back. We don’t need you. We don’t want you back in the stadium. You are not the fans we want.

“So that, for me, is very simple with everything there is – there is cameras everywhere. We know who do that. So it’s very simple to take action from that.”

The former French international, now 54, was also able to draw upon his own personal experience of suffering abuse while on the pitch.

He added: “Back in the day when I was playing, I received some bad comments as well. Sometimes they used to call me Gypsy, and they said things about my family. There, I received some racist comments as well.

“I tried to avoid them all the time. I tried to protect myself not to get emotional about this. And I tried as much as possible.

“The best answer you can give is on the pitch – just win the game, shut your mouth and leave the game.”

The chants at Old Trafford were audible throughout Man United‘s fixture against Man City, eventually drawing a response from Foden, who sarcastically applauded sections of the crowd and offered a thumbs up. Pep Guardiola later withdrew the England international in the 58th minute.

Petit continued: “I’m talking about what happened in Man United, but it’s everywhere, the same. Fifa and Uefa, those guys, have to be ruthless. They have to take decisions and they have to make examples out of it.

“I think in France is the same. I think sometimes those who are responsible of the game don’t take those problems seriously.

“It’s funny to see the message that UEFA or FIFA try to send every time there is a fight against racism. You want to do it? Do it properly.

“I mean clubs, they are protecting their fans all the time. They have to be ruthless. So what can I say more honestly? It’s a pity, it’s a disease.

“This is something that we’ve been fighting against in football for years, and years, and years. I think the sanctions, the fines, should be more important, because you can identify people easily with cameras in a stadium. So something has to be done.

“Those stupid people, they feel free to do what they want to do in a ground.

“What is the point of spending money, buying a ticket to watch the game, and then you go there and just make some very bad comments about family, about loved ones, the skin of one’s colour, or religion? I don’t know. I don’t get it, honestly.

“So for me, it’s a disease in football, it’s a disease on social networks. And those people who are responsible of the game or social networks, I think they have to step up and take their responsibility.”

Petit also believes that officials should shoulder more responsibility and take some initiative to stamp out the behaviour.

“Well, I think the referee has to take the decision as well. They should stop the game. No more of that, send a strong message every time you hear bad comments, racist comments about family, stop the game. That’s it. Send the players back into the dressing room.

“Because I think it’s very easy for so many people to hide behind their fingers. So I think referees have to to step up to make a strong decision, even if it’s not popular.

“But as well, the players. I’ve seen the last few years some players and teams leaving the pitch after racist comments about their team-mates. And this is one solution.

“But in the meantime, it’s not the priority of the players to do that. They’ve been paid to play.

“Those people in charge of the laws, they have to step up and take the responsibility, and it starts with the referee.”

INEOS slash asking price for one of United’s top young talents, they desperately want rid of him – report

Manchester United appear to be pushing for Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer to Napoli this summer.

While the Argentine has quickly risen through the ranks at Man United, becoming a regular part of Ruben Amorim’s starting 11, he has struggled in recent times to produce effective performances, struggling to provide the finishing product during the club’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest as well as the goalless draw with Manchester City.

With transfer rumours swirling back and forth regarding Garnacho’s potential departure, it has appeared in recent days that the winger is preparing to leave Old Trafford behind.

Last week, The Peoples Person relayed that Garnacho is reportedly willing to sell his property in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.

If that wasn’t enough to strengthen Garnacho’s exit claims, it now appears that United may be willing to lower the player’s price tag in order to facilitate his departure.

CalcioNapoli24 reported today that Napoli view Garnacho as a “little jewel”, thereby supporting reports claiming that he remains one of Napoli’s transfer targets.

The Italian outlet claimed that United will look to decrease their asking price for Garnacho to get a deal over the line, going so far as to drop the Argentine’s price tag to less than €45m.

Should this report prove valid, it would suggest an urgency on the part of United to offload the struggling attacker.

This would be particularly noteworthy given that just last month, it was reported that Napoli were willing to fork out €80m in order to lure the winger to Italy.

What’s more, this price tag would be a club record for Napoli, showing the value they place on the 20 year old.

United’s approach to negotiations over Garnacho could have major implications for the club, particularly since they are reported to be targeting Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in a summer move.

Furthermore, with the Italians reportedly open to offering United a discount to take the Nigerian striker off their hands, Amorim’s openness to dropping Garnacho’s price tag could suggest some reciprocal flexibility in order to get a deal over the line.

“It doesn’t affect me”: Defiant United star says he won’t change controversial habit despite fan pressure

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has insisted that booing from the club’s supporters will not affect his decisions on the pitch, following criticism that he occasionally holds onto the ball for too long.

Onana has been a source of frustration for some fans, who have taken issue with his failure to release the ball fast enough when the team has an opportunity to break.

On several occasions, the Cameroonian has faced groans and jeers from the crowd, urging him to speed up his decision-making. During Sunday’s goalless draw with Manchester City at Old Trafford, audible boos rang out more than once.

However, the goalkeeper has said he will not allow fan pressure to affect what he does on the pitch.

Onana also explained the logic behind his slow recycling of the ball. He remarked [as quoted by 90min], “To be honest, it doesn’t affect me because the decision I make is to help the team.”

“Sometimes I will make the right decision, sometimes I will make the wrong decision, when I feel my players need to rest I have to take my time, when I feel we need to speed up the game I will do it.”

“But sometimes, especially in the second half with an opponent that has a lot of control, they have more possession than us, I have to let my guys breathe.”

He added, “They need me to do that. If the team needs to speed up the game, I will do it.”

“I try to make the best decision for the team.”

There has been speculation over Onana’s future at United ahead of the summer transfer window. It has been suggested that the Red Devils are willing to sanction his sale after another difficult season.

The Saudi Pro League has been mentioned as a likely destination for the 29-year-old, who is believed to be keen on staying and fighting for his place under Ruben Amorim.

United are back in action on Thursday when they head to Lyon for their Europa League quarterfinal first leg.
