United’s deal in jeopardy as rival PL club surges ahead in race for 19-yo wreaking havoc in the Championship – report

Chelsea have reportedly pulled ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jobe, the younger brother of Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham, has done well for Sunderland this season, alerting a number of clubs to his potential availability.

The 19-year-old has registered an impressive four goals and three assists in 36 Championship appearances, playing a key role in Sunderland’s unexpected push for Premier League promotion.

The Black Cats are currently in fourth place with five games left to play.

United are expected to be in the market for midfielders who can slot into Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation and Bellingham is seen as someone who fits the bill.

A report covered by The Peoples Person last month indicated that United are not the only party chasing Bellingham. The player is also on the radar of Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Now, CaughtOffside state that Chelsea are in pole position to secure the youngster’s signature.

“Chelsea are currently showing the strongest interest in a potential summer transfer window swoop for Sunderland wonderkid Jobe Bellingham, CaughtOffside understands.”

The news outlet adds that Bellingham also has admirers from abroad, with Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

His older brother, Jude, made the move from the Championship to Dortmund, where he rose to prominence in Germany, ultimately securing a lucrative transfer to Madrid. Jobe may very well follow the same path if he deems it to be the correct decision for his career and development.

Two weeks ago, journalist Ben Jacobs explained that United are yet to advance on a summer deal for Bellingham.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT, “The player’s not really agitating for a move. There’s nothing advanced yet between Manchester United and Jobe Bellingham.”

“But what we can say about Manchester United is that part of Jim Ratcliffe’s sporting-led strategy is to lower the average age and to invest in home-grown talents. And Jobe Bellingham ticks both boxes.”

Bellingham joined Sunderland from Birmingham City for a fee of around £3m. He spent most of his first season at the Stadium of Light as an attacking midfielder but this term, he has thrived in a much deeper role, operating as a free-roaming number eight.

Andre Onana hits back at Matic with vicious jab as their war of words escalates ahead of Europa showdown

Manchester United star Andre Onana has publicly responded to Nemanja Matic, who labelled him “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the club’s history.

Earlier on Wednesday, Matic spoke at a press conference ahead of United’s Europa League quarter-final clash with Lyon and was asked about recent comments made by Onana.

After the 0-0 draw with Manchester City, Onana said that United are much better than Lyon – remarks that didn’t go down well with former Red Matic.

In addition to calling Onana one of the worst goalkeepers to ever play for United, Matic also stressed that the Cameroonian should be careful with his words, as he hasn’t yet earned the reputation of the club’s legendary shot-stoppers like David de Gea, Peter Schmeichel, or Edwin van der Sar.

Onana has now issued a response, as the pair’s exchange of words continues.

The 29-year-old wrote on X, “I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent.”

“We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud.”

He added, “At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”

Onana accompanied his message with a picture of himself lifting last season’s FA Cup.

Matic joined United in 2017 from Chelsea. He spent five years at Old Trafford and despite an incredibly successful spell with the Blues, he didn’t win any silverware at United.

The Serbian featured in teams that finished second in the Premier League in 2017/18 under Jose Mourinho and in 2020/21 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lyon vs. United kicks off on Thursday at 20:00 BST.

Confirmed: Amorim picks United squad for crucial Lyon clash as defensive rock misses out through injury

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has named a 23-man squad for the Europa League quarter-final clash against Olympique Lyonnais tomorrow night.

Success in the competition offers the Red Devils their last opportunity at salvaging success in an otherwise dismal season at Old Trafford.

Victory in the final in Bilbao in May would reward United with first-seed qualification into next season’s Champions League and a sizeable win bonus.

Participating in Europe’s premier competition would also massively increase the club’s revenue, as well as offer a much stronger position by which to attract new players in this summer’s transfer market.

Given the comprehensive overhaul Amorim needs to continue to mould his first-team squad to effectively play his trademark 3-4-2-1 system, the importance of a successful Europa League campaign cannot be understated.

And the next hurdle on this journey will come at the Groupama Stadium against French side Lyon, currently positioned 5th in Ligue 1.

Amorim is able to welcome back Kobbie Mainoo from injury and has included the talented trio of youngsters Jaydan Kamason, Godwill Kukonki and Jack Moorhouse, who are all in line to make their senior debuts for the club.

However, Matthijs de Ligt has not travelled as the Dutch defender continues to recover from injury.

United’s Confirmed Squad:

Goalkeepers: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton

Defenders: Amass, Dalot, Dorgu, Kamason, Kukonki, Lindelof, Maguire, Mazraoui, Shaw, Yoro

Midfielders: Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Mainoo, Moorhouse, Mount, Ugarte.

Forwards: Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee.

Chelsea, Man Utd learn £56m target’s huge ‘demand’ for ‘expected’ transfer with two outcomes ‘favoured’

According to reports, Galatasaray loanee Victor Osimhen is ‘expected to move in the summer’ amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

In recent years, Osimhen has been heavily linked with a potential move to the Premier League as he’s emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe.

Before the 2024 summer transfer window, Napoli were intent on keeping Osimhen and priced him out of an exit.

However, his situation changed ahead of this season as Napoli opened the door to him leaving. This came as he had a fallout with club chiefs, who recruited former Chelsea and Man Utd forward Romelu Lukaku as a replacement.

Osimhen was linked with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the two European giants could not agree on a move before the window closed.

Instead, Osimhen joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan in a short-term solution. He has 28 goals in 32 appearances this season and is among the contenders to be this year’s top scorer in Europe.

Galatasaray are unlikely to sign the 26-year-old permanently as he is attracting interest from several European giants ahead of this summer’s window.

Osimhen could head to the Premier League as Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer.

A report from ESPN confirms interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd with the prolific striker ‘favouring’ two potential moves, while Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is a cheaper alternative.

The report explains:

‘A source has told ESPN that there is no option built into the agreement for Galatasaray to make the deal permanent and that Osimhen favours a move to England or Italian giants Juventus.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 28 goals in 32 games for Galatasaray this season, is available for €65 million ($71m or £56m). He averaged better than a goal every two games during four years at Napoli.

‘Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs looking for a striker ahead of next season.

‘Chelsea have been linked with Osimhen in the past and the Nigerian is on United’s transfer shortlist for the summer window.

‘Sources have told ESPN that Osimhen has been leapfrogged by Ipswich striker Liam Delap on United’s list of priorities in part because of his salary.

‘Osimhen’s demands are expected to reach around €11m a year after tax and sources have told ESPN that United are actively trying to bring down their wage bill this summer.

‘Delap is set to be available for around £40m if Ipswich are relegated to the Championship and the 22-year-old’s wage demands would be significantly lower than Osimhen.’

Joshua Zirkzee holds the keys to United’s ability to sign CL winger for bargain price – report

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee could come to his club’s rescue in an effort to sign Dan Ndoye.

At the start of the season, Man United reportedly registered their interest in Ndoye, who happened to be Zirkzee’s teammate at Bologna at the time.

He also happened to be a standout player in Switzerland’s run to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

While United may not have ultimately made a move for Ndoye, it appears as if he could be an affordable winger for the club, with the player reportedly available for €30 million.

Now, Zirkzee may just come to United’s aid in the race to sign Ndoye.

“Joshua Zirkzee could divert Bologna’s Dan Ndoye to Manchester United this summer, with an auction set to be unleashed for him,”
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported via SportWitness.

“The newspaper reports that Ndoye is the latest ‘explosion’ from the ‘Bologna gold mine’ and clubs are likely to be lining up for him in the summer. Antonio Conte already wanted him at Napoli to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January.”

“The Italian club are likely to be unable to resist bids, despite Ndoye having a deal until 2027 with an option of another year,” the report continued, suggesting that the player’s departure from the club is inevitable in the next transfer window.

Despite potential interest from multiple clubs, the report claims that United will have an edge over the competition in the transfer race. “The feeling is that Zirkzee could divert his former teammate to Old Trafford and do them a favour,” the article claimed.

Having initially struggled to adjust to life at Old Trafford, Zirkzee has since appeared more comfortable in his role in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

He was particularly impressive in United’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad as the team marched toward the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

Given Zirkzee’s integration into Amorim’s set-up, perhaps he could play a role in convincing Ndoye that life at Old Trafford is certainly worth experiencing.

Video: Nemanja Matic brutally humiliates United star as “one of the worst” players in the club’s history

Nemanja Matic has cranked up the heat ahead of the crucial European clash between Manchester United and Olympique Lyonnais by brutally labelling Andre Onana as “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the club’s history.

The Red Devils travel to France tomorrow to face off against Lyon in the first-leg of the Europa League quarter final with the competition representing the last chance of success in an otherwise dismal season at Old Trafford.

United are currently languished in 13th in the Premier League table with no practical hopes of European football next season, despite qualification not necessarily being a mathematical impossibility yet.

Success in the Europa League, however, would gift Ruben Amorim’s side first-seed entry into next year’s Champions League and provide a huge economic boost to United’s strained financial situation.

It cannot be understated how important both of these rewards would be to help the Portuguese coach to continue to overhaul the first-team squad at Old Trafford, which requires significant investment in the summer in a number of positions.

Ahead of Thursday night’s showdown at the Groupama Stadium, Onana revealed he believes United are a “way better team” than the French side, despite Lyon being positioned 5th in Ligue 1 and the Reds in the bottom of the Premier League.

Matic, who played for United from 2017 until 2022, took exception to this assessment, however, launching a scathing response to the Cameroonian international in a press-conference today.

The Serbian midfielder stated: “Onana said they’re way better than us? When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about. If it was Van der Sar, Schmeichel or de Gea saying that, ok… but Onana, he’s one of the worst”.

It constitutes a rather remarkable escalation of words, offering almost a throwback to a previous era, far removed from the sanitised and carefully mediated culture of modern football.

There are likely to be many United fans who would find themselves agreeing with Matic’s assessment given the wildly inconsistent displays Onana has produced since arriving at Old Trafford in 2023.

The best response the 29-year-old shot stopper can deliver is to let his hands (and feet) do the talking against Lyon by helping his side put Lyon to the sword by the half-way point of the tie.

Whether Onana is able to offer this type of performance in United’s biggest game of the season so far remains to be seen. Matic is evidently certain he will not be able to do so and will be banking on the Reds’ goalkeeper producing a trademark howler to give the French side the advantage.

United set sights on teenage prodigy who is wowing the crowds at the U17 AFCON – report

Manchester United appear to have taken an interest in Yeleen Olympique player Soungalo Coulibaly.

At 16 years old, the attacker has been called up to represent Mali’s national team at the U17 African Cup of Nations.

“According to information gathered by Africafoot, Manchester United scouts have been closely monitoring the young winger’s performances during the Aiglonnets’ three group matches,” Africafoot reported. “According to our sources, discussions are already underway to secure Coulibaly’s future within the Red Devils’ academy.”

“Boasting impressive technique, blazing speed, and a keen dribbling ability capable of shattering any defense, Coulibaly leaves no one indifferent. As exclusively reported by Africafoot, clubs such as Salzburg, Sturm Graz, and Tottenham are also poised to enter the race.”

“Manchester United, well aware of the young Malian’s potential, are reportedly willing to put a significant sum on the table to gain an advantage in this highly sought-after position,” the report continued.

Coulibaly has made an emphatic start to the ongoing AFCON tournament, scoring the winning goal in Mali’s 2-1 victory over Angola in their opening group stage game.

Finishing second in their group, Mali is set to face Tunisia in their quarter-final match.

The Malian rising star could prove to be a worthwhile talent for United to acquire, particularly as the club seeks to improve its attacking fortunes.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to adjust to life at Old Trafford, while Joshua Zirkzee has been used on the wings, given the team’s lack of options due to injuries.

While Chido Obi has emerged as a promising teenage talent up front, it would not be feasible for United to place all of their attacking responsibilities on the teenager.

Although short-term attacking options are clearly needed for Ruben Amorim going into next season, it would make sense for United to acquire younger talents with whom they can build toward the future.

Still, the team would do well not to overpay for the likes of Coulibaly as has happened multiple times in the past.

Confirmed: Our 23-man squad for Lyon away

Wednesday 09 April 2025 14:30

Ruben Amorim has selected a 23-man squad for Manchester United’s quarter-final first leg in Lyon on Thursday.

Kobbie Mainoo was spotted by our cameras at Carrington on Wednesday morning, having returned to group training last week, and he is on the France-bound flight.

The England midfielder has spent two months on the sidelines but could play a part at the Groupama Stadium, as could Luke Shaw.

The left-back was an unused substitute during Sunday’s Manchester derby but is an option for the boss, as we look to secure a positive result ahead of next Thursday’s meeting at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Leny Yoro have all become available again since our last trip to the continent – a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad five weeks ago.

The Basques were dispatched 4-1 in M16 to set up this tie, while our upcoming opponents saw off the challenge of FCSB to make it to the last eight.

Goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton missed the game in San Sebastian but are back for this encounter, although United will be without Matthijs de Ligt and Toby Collyer.

De Ligt has been absent since picking up an injury at Nottingham Forest, while Collyer has suffered a knock.

Youngsters Jaydan Kamason and Jack Moorhouse are in the group and, with Amorim able to name 12 substitutes, could get a first taste of the European matchday experience.

UNITED’S SQUAD TO FACE LYON (A)

Goalkeepers: Bayindir, Heaton, Onana.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Mainoo, Moorhouse, Mount, Ugarte.

Forwards: Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee.

United’s bid to land their priority striker target hits major snag in latest transfer twist – report

Manchester United will reportedly have to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League if their efforts to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap are to succeed.

Delap has been identified as an option for United to bolster a tepid attack that has only managed to score 37 goals in 31 Premier League matches.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Delap is United’s first-choice striker target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite Ipswich’s tough season and relegation to the Championship appearing inevitable, Delap has impressed with 12 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

A £40m price tag has been suggested for the former Manchester City player. While City still hold a £40m buy-back option for Delap, there is no indication that they intend to exercise it at this time.

United are not the only party chasing Delap. He has also been linked to Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle. He is also thought to have admirers abroad, with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig interested in his services.

Now, talkSPORT reveal that United may have to lift the Europa League to land Delap as the goalscorer wants to play European football.

The Red Devils are currently 13th in the Premier League, and their only chance of securing European football is through the backdoor, with a route into the Champions League still within reach.

It has been claimed elsewhere that Chelsea, who are in fourth place, are significantly ahead of United in the race for Delap.

The Blues have reportedly been working on a deal to lure the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge since 2023.

It’s understood that Delap is aware of how much work Chelsea have put in to secure his signature.

United are back in action on Thursday when they go away to Lyon for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash. Kick-off is at 20:00 BST.
