United’s pay package “far more solid” than PL rivals’ as they take the lead for red-hot striker wanted by nearly everyone – report

Joshua Zirkzee’s injury on Sunday means Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim only has Rasmus Hojlund to call upon as a striking option for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg tie.

In fact, the Dutchman is expected to miss the rest of the season and the Dane will have to play a blinder from now until the end of the season if the club are to end a dismal campaign on a high.

His form does not inspire the most confidence with the former Atalanta ace managing only three Premier League goals all season while his back-to-goal play has regressed.

This is why the Portuguese tactician wants to replace him in the summer with a ruthless finisher with INEOS even open to offering a loan exit with Juventus among the teams interested.

Delap interest

If the Red Devils can win the Europa League, lots of doors could open with regards to recruitment but for now, Liam Delap is the most realistic choice with Ipswich Town’s relegation likely to play into United’s hands.

Chelsea are also eyeing the ex-Manchester City academy starlet and plenty of reports had indicated that the Stamford Bridge side might be favourites.

But The Peoples Person have relayed that United feel confident of winning the race and Teamtalk have revealed the reason behind their source of confidence.

Both clubs have sent in their proposals with United set to pay a higher wage as compared to the Blues who are eyeing more of a staggered payment scheme.

“TEAMtalk sources have informed us of a major breakthrough in Manchester United’s hopes of signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Everton, with one major factor currently to their advantage.

Why United are favourites

“However, at this stage, it’s more of a battle between United and Chelsea that the former have now taken the lead in that particular heavyweight chase.

“Indeed, Chelsea sources have told us that “Man Utd’s package is far more solid” and that the Blues “have been offering a much more staggered deal than them”.

“As stated before, we can also confirm that salary will be an important factor in Delap’s final decision over where he ends up playing next, with the Red Devils out in front in that regard.”

Delap has 12 goals in the Premier League, twice as much as Zirkzee and Hojlund’s goals combined, while also registering two assists.

Despite a difficult season for Kieran McKenna’s men, Delap has stood strong and looks to be destined to join a top club in the summer.

‘I’ve never seen that before’ – Henry singles out Man Utd star for criticism in Newcastle loss

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has singled out Man Utd defender Leny Yoro for criticism in the Red Devils’ 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.

Man Utd lost their 14th Premier League match of the season as goals from Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes (2) and Bruno Guimaraes gave the Magpies a comfortable win over Ruben Amorim’s men.

The current crop will now officially go down as the worst team to play in the Premier League for Man Utd after their result at Newcastle with the Red Devils dropping down to 14th in the table.

Other players have come in for criticism since the defeat on Sunday, but former Arsenal striker Henry chose to pick out Yoro for his strange body language after Barnes scored his second goal of the day.

As a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Henry said: “I invite everyone to stay on Leny Yoro. First and foremost, he’s going to try to play offside.

“It’s a great finish from Barnes but please stay on Yoro and what he’s asking for… pause.

“I don’t know what he’s looking at. What are you looking at? Are you looking at the linesman to try to see if he’s going to bail you out? I don’t know.

“I don’t know if he thought there was an offside, I don’t know. We all know it’s a goal! What are you looking at?! I actually don’t know. I’ve never seen that before.”

When analysing Barnes’ first goal, Henry again criticised Man Utd defender Yoro for not tracking back, he added: “Diogo Dalot, I don’t know what he saw or what he thought was going to happen.

“Leny Yoro doesn’t go back and try and defend it, they’re second in everything, the desire was one Newcastle’s side.

“It’s just not good enough really.”

Former Man Utd defender Gary Neville highlighted the “massive issues” the club faces in terms of recruitment and revealed the only two Red Devils players that he trusts.

Neville said on NBC Sports: “There are massive issues and, honestly, you just don’t know where to start, you don’t know where to build the first step from.

“That’s the problem at the moment and there is a serious amount of time required in good recruitment for that club to get right.”

Neville added: “The problem with this group of players is they’re giving it their all. I don’t think there is a lack of effort.

“They are so below the standard of quality that you need at that football club, all over the pitch.

“Other than Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo maybe, I can’t think of any of them that I would hang my hat on.

“It’s a really desperate situation because the squad is so poor in quality.

“They’ve got old players, they’ve got young players that are nowhere near it and they’ve got a group of players in the middle. It’s a worrying situation.”

Have a word, Thierry
Thierry Henry and Sky Sports embarrassed themselves on Monday Night Football. The show had a rushed segment on the Newcastle United Man United game which contained zero analysis and the sole purpose of which it seems was to mock a 19-year-old kid that has not been protected in a woeful Man United team this season. They even pulled out weird camera angles to really ramp into up. I don’t get the joke, the kid thought it was offside and what?

Comedy Dave and Jamie Carragher laughing along is by the by, I don’t really expect much from low rent people. Carragher even gave the game away saying this will be a meme. However Thierry Henry is a legend of the game, why is he reducing himself to this type of bullying against a young player? Maybe this lack of actual insights is why Henry has failed as a manager.

We don’t need this fake CBS type material in the UK and Ireland, MNF was once famed for the quality of the analysis and now the show and a legend of the game are lowering themselves for thirsty social media clicks. Henry was praising himself about his ability to assist, he should probably assist himself and try not to go on MNF every other week.

Sky Sports have now deleted this Thierry Henry clip. This sensationalism is cheap low hanging fruit & fans saw straight through it. Punditry on Sky has never been poorer than it is right now.

Why Arsenal will win nothing
Despite Will Ford’s clickbait, lone-gunman attempt to get this season cancelled simply because he doesn’t want to see Liverpool lift the trophy, you cannot blame anyone but the rest of the league for failing to put up much of a fight. Liverpool are edging closer to the title, and you can only beat what’s in front of you.

Does this campaign pass the smell test like the 2018/19 season, when Liverpool and City were at their peak? Obviously not.

Furthermore, it’s not Liverpool’s fault that City capitulated the way they did in 2022/23. Likewise, it’s tough luck that Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester United seem to be protagonists in some Cirque du Soleil production, making this one of the funniest seasons in recent memory.

However, the real villain of this play must be Arsenal.

At a dinner party in August, one of my friends confidently declared it would be Arsenal’s season. After finishing second two years in a row (albeit one of them a distant second), he insisted they would follow Liverpool’s trajectory and take the next step. He scoffed at my view that, despite a new manager, Liverpool would still show up.

We went back and forth, debating the merits of our respective teams.

I had him on the ropes by the time cigars were lit, pointing out that this current Arsenal side contains virtually no remnants of the team that won the 2020 FA Cup – their last piece of silverware. Liverpool, on the other hand, entered the 2019/20 season after winning the Champions League and finishing the previous season by winning 10 games in a row. Add to that the famous comeback against Barcelona, they had momentum.

There were no international tournaments that summer to disrupt pre-season, and Liverpool had Salah, Mané, and Firmino. A front three arguably only eclipsed by Messi, Suárez, and Neymar. Has it been mentioned that Arsenal need a striker?

But ultimately, my knockout blow was that this Arsenal team simply doesn’t know how to win. Case in point is this weekend. Both Arsenal and Liverpool were awful, but Arsenal drew, and Liverpool eventually won.

Nine members of Liverpool’s current squad were part of the title-winning squad of 2019/20. Over half also won the domestic cups three seasons ago, and many lifted silverware again last year. Winning is not easy.

But perhaps the most grating aspect, and as Stewie Griffin eloquently points this out, is the self-entitlement of many Arsenal fans. The snobbery, the belief that they are inherently better than the rest, the frustration that the ‘proletarian’ clubs haven’t just laid back and thought of England and let them win, as if it’s their right after two second-place finishes.

The fourth estate feeds into this narrative, treating Mikel “Wile E. Coyote” Arteta as some kind of managerial genius. In reality, he’s spent close to £750 million to win one cup. The much-derided Erik ten Hag, by contrast, finished second once and has two cups to his name. Just saying.

F365 recently ran a brilliant piece comparing Klopp and Arteta, exploring why one is liked and the other isn’t. The conclusion perfectly encapsulates the broader attitude of this club and why, ultimately, they are not winners.

Not all Arsenal fans are self-entitled
Did you just play a trick on me? Cause if you did, you got me good. 😉 All banter aside, I just read someone’s response to my article titled “Will Liverpool implode” and I thought I have to read it again, thinking to myself ‘what the f did I write??” And then I noticed the name at the bottom. Football365 own resident troll.

First thing first, made mental note to do a quick search for his name so that next time I won’t fall in the trap again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me kinda thing. Second, now that I was unfortunate enough to have read Stewie’s latest … whatever the hell it was.., I was left thinking what did Stewie read and what did I actually write. Hence, me actually having to re-read my letter.

For one, never said Arsenal were set to gain anything. The whole point was seriously wondering why 30+ players who are in the best form of their lives players sign one last big contract and then for some reason go ‘poof’ next season. That’s it, didn’t say Liverpool doesn’t deserve all the accolades. Whoever ends up top gets to be there because they earned it. Sometimes you can have a surprise such as Leicester winning the Premier League, sometimes the clear favourites fall apart and some other team ends up top and at the end every club tries to buy the best they can with the means they have. This all part of a vibrant and exciting Premier League which I enjoy.

Stewie finds it strange that I want other teams to be the best they can be. It forces other teams including my Arsenal to do better. It raises the bar and makes it more fun for everyone. Well fun for everyone except a certain someone.

Take Pete and his wife having to deal with one of the worst things imaginable. Going to THAT match and a little magic made it into their lives. I felt gutted for a man and his wife I don’t know and happy for their magical moment which they will always have no matter what happens in the 2nd leg.

So unless I get tricked again, this will be the last time I respond to Stewie. I do have one serious question for him, what do you like about football? I genuinely want to know. If you do write in, just name it ‘What I love about football’. That way I won’t skip it. It is also an open question to every other reader and somehow I have this feeling it won’t be ‘I love football because my club won title X’.

Why Man City FFP verdict will take time
Football365 News Editor Joe Williams recently quoted former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson in an article on the pending FFP verdict that, “These things just take time, and people just have to wait. It’s irritating, but it’s just the way it is.”

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan is not only the owner of Manchester City, but also UAE’s Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister. A country whose naval and air bases are vital to UK world-wide force projection. I can imagine that the “independent” commission may be consulting with His Majesty’s Government before finalizing any ruling.

Who here likes transfer windows?
I sure don’t. From the incessant non stop speculation and dramatisation from media (to drum up more bets on their gambling sponsor websites) to the fact the transfer window is now an event unto itself.

The whole reason for the window in the first place was to stop big clubs buying their way out of trouble. Well if we have spending limits now (which we do) then surely we don’t need transfer windows anymore? There’s no reason for transfer windows anymore other than for media and gambling purposes.

Let’s get rid of them and just enable buying at any time since clubs cant just buy who they want anyway due to both league and European spending rules. This will also stop all those blogs, YouTube videos, mainstream media pieces which do nothing but talk about which transfers will fix which team.

There’s genuinely no reason for the windows anymore. So get rid and it’s another thing clubs, fans don’t have to think about anymore.

Villa still-a in with a chance?
Okay then, a few thoughts ahead of a quiet Tuesday night in Birmingham.

The atmosphere will be incredible. It will be loud. It will be frenzied. I don’t imagine it will really affect PSG all that much, but you never know. Villa have to be brave but not reckless in the first half. They will need to try and have more of the ball than they did in Paris, partly to try and keep the Villa faithful going/believing.

Watkins absolutely has to start. He occupies the CB’s way better than Rashford does and never stops making intelligent runs. I’m not having a go at Rashford, the whole football world knows he’s better/prefers playing just off the left. Little decisions may need to go Villa’s way. Chances will have to be taken. Emi may have to make a couple of decent stops.

Villa to go 1-0 up just before HT. PSG equalise around 53 minutes before an 82nd minute Konsa scrambled goal puts le chat amongst les pigeons for a few minutes without any real chances being created. A brave exit.

Or PSG win 4-1.

Exclusive: Wes Brown calls on Man Utd boss Amorim to ‘bring Onana back’ for clash against Lyon

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim made a bold move as he dropped goalkeeper Andre Onana from his team for Sunday’s Premier League match at Newcastle and now he faces another big call on whether he should recall him for Thursday night’s crucial Europa League tie against Lyon.

Onana’s error-strewn display was a major factor in United’s 2-2 draw against their French opponents in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Amorim then shone a light on Onana’s precarious position by leaving him out of his team for the trip to Newcastle, suggesting he needed to take him out of the firing line.

The Cameroon international, who had made headlines in the build-up to the Lyon match when he described United as “way better” than the Ligue 1 outfit, was left out of the squad for the St James’ Park clash, with Altay Bayindir drafted in for a game United lost 4-1.

Deciding on what comes next for Onana could be crucial to Amorim’s hopes of saving United’s increasingly desperate season, after he explained his reason to take Onana out of the firing line.

“Sometimes you have to push the player to play again, sometimes you have to let them disconnect a little bit, but (on Monday) he is going to be in training to prepare for the next one. I felt it was a good time for Andre to disconnect,” said Amorim as he explained his reasoning for dropping his keeper.

“I think he was OK because I explained and then you don’t need to like, but you understand because I explain every situation.

“So it was a normal situation. You have to manage everything and sometimes people just look at the physical aspect, but the mental aspect is really, really important. It is just one game.”

The heavy defeat for Amorim’s side at Newcastle did not suggest Bayindir is ready to take over as United’s permanent No 1, yet former United defender Wes Brown that Onana should be recalled for the make-or-break match against Lyon.

Speaking exclusively to Football365 with AOS, Brown backed the Cameroon keeper to silence his doubters if he gets a recall to the United line-up.

“I think you have to bring Onana back,” said Brown, who won five Premier League titles and two Champions League titles in his time working under manager Sir Alex Ferguson at United. “Onana is the more experienced keeper and even though the mistakes in the first leg against Lyon were disappointing, as a football you have to be able to put that right.

“It’s going to be tough mentally for him, but he can do it. He’s had some great games this season and he needs another one on Thursday.”

Brown went on to challenge the United players to prove they can silence their doubters when they take on Lyon at Old Trafford, where some of their most disappointing performances have been served up this season.

“There is a lot of pressure on all the United players in this game and it’s just a question of whether they can handle it,” he added.

“I went to the first game in Lyon and they looked a lot like United. They had their spells when they looked good and we had ours. It’s going to come down to who makes the most of their chances when they have their moment.

“It looks like a very even match, but United are at home and they know the season is pretty much done if they lose this match. This is another chance for these players and they have to take it.

“It’s been a really bad season on so many levels. The only positive is we are still in the Europa League, that is our only hope this season.

“All of us have high expectations around United are always going to be very high and they are just not hitting anywhere near the levels that are needed.

“The standard at Manchester United is you need to be challenging for trophies. That means the Premier League, the cups and even if you don’t win everything, you are expected to be a team that’s there and challenging.

“They have this one last chance in the Europa League and you have to believe they will perform when it matters most.”

Man Utd: Ornstein reveals Amorim is pushing record-breaking transfer for Premier League winger

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim is pushing the Red Devils towards signing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo this summer, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Red Devils are having a nightmare season with Ruben Amorim’s side to go down as the worst Man Utd team in the Premier League era.

Man Utd still have a chance of Europa League glory with a triumph in the competition giving them qualification for next season’s Champions League.

That would boost their chances of securing top players this summer with the Red Devils currently 14th in the Premier League and without a chance of European qualification through the league.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to back Amorim as much as he can in the summer but Man Utd could have to sell players before they can buy to avoid any penalties for potentially breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Bournemouth, who are having a great season in the Premier League, are in danger of seeing many of their top players plucked away in the summer transfer window.

Cherries centre-back Dean Huijsen is a top target for a number of Premier League clubs, while Milos Kerkez has been interesting champions-elect Liverpool, as well as other sides.

After touching on Huijsen and Kerkez’s future, The Athletic‘s Ornstein revealed interest from Man Utd in Semenyo, he told NBC Sports: “And then there’s Antoine Semenyo as well, what a season he’s had.

“A player that Manchester United, their manager Ruben Amorim, is very fond of.”

But Man Utd will have to pay over £65m if they want to prise Semenyo away from the Vitality Stadium, which would be a club record fee for the Cherries.

Ornstein continued: “[Bournemouth] would be looking to sell him for a fee in excess of what they got for Dominic Solanke which was £65m. There’s no release clause, they would want a club record.

“I don’t think both he and Kerkez will [be sold] after Huijsen, so it’s maybe two of the three [who depart and not all three].”

Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has attempted to put his finger on why so many players end up unhappy at Man Utd.

Agbonlahor told 10bet: “Well, it’s common knowledge, isn’t it? If you want a top career, you leave Manchester United. That’s what it’s come to now. It used to be the opposite. You want a top career, you go to Manchester United. Now, if you leave, your career will blossom.

“Look at Elanga. Look at Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa. Then you look at the players at Manchester United. Is it too much pressure? Is it a big club and they can’t handle the pressure there? Or is it the negative vibe from top to bottom?

“If I’m Sancho and I get sent back to Manchester United, I’m desperate to leave again because there’ll be other players in that squad feeling the same. I bet Garnacho, if you asked him, would love to leave Manchester United, it’s a negative football club who are currently in a bad, bad way.”

Man Utd: Bruno Fernandes to Real Madrid tipped to fail as legend reveals ‘interest’ is exaggerated

Real Madrid legend Fernando Morientes does not feel Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes moving to the club is “viable” as he doesn’t think they “are interested”.

Fernandes has been one of the most consistent players in the Premier League since joining in January 2020. There has not been a season at United yet in which he has not been directly involved in at least 20 goals.

That sort of consistent form over a number of years has seen Premier League stars afforded moves to La Liga giants previously. Cristiano Ronaldo, Philippe Coutinho, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard were all consistent Premier League performers who were offered moves to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Fernandes has been linked with Real of late, with the suggestion that they could come in with a £90million bid, which it’s believed United would accept. However, Real legend Morientes does not feel that move will go through.

“Bruno Fernandes to Real Madrid? No, I’m not sure, and I don’t see it as viable. He’s an interesting profile, but I don’t think Real Madrid are interested right now,” he told bet365.

“He’s not Real Madrid’s priority, I think they’re thinking a lot more about other positions, and although in that position there are some players who might be finishing their careers, I get the feeling they’re looking for more defenders.”

Indeed, Real’s priority for some time has seemed to be right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. They made a bid for him in the January window, and after Liverpool rejected it, they have reportedly been negotiating with the player and his entourage directly, given he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Fernandes has not to this point been spoken to by Real, and his manager, Ruben Amorim, clearly does not want him to leave United, anyway.

“No. It’s not going to happen. He’s 30, I think, but he’s still so young because he plays 55 games every season and between assists and goals he’s there for 30 at least,” Amorim said

“We are in control of the situation and I feel that he is really happy here, especially because he understands what we want to do and then I think he is one more supporter of Manchester United. He really feels it.

“Sometimes the frustration that you and everybody sees, and says, ‘It’s not a good thing for the captain’ – it’s a sign that he wants it so bad.

“This is the kind of player we want. He’s not going anywhere – because I already told him.”

United miss out on big payday after loanee’s recent milestone – report

Manchester United have reportedly missed out on receiving a penalty payment from Real Betis as part of their loan agreement for Antony.

Antony, who signed for United in the summer of 2022 from Ajax in a deal worth over £82 million, has endured a dramatic change in fortunes at Betis since joining them during the January transfer window.

After falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag, Antony also struggled to find a place in Ruben Amorim’s plans, prompting his move to Real Betis in pursuit of regular first-team football.

The Brazilian has looked like a player reborn in Spain, managing an impressive four goals and as many assists in 15 appearances across all competitions. Unsurprisingly, Betis are believed to be keen on extending his stay with them. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Manuel Pellegrini’s side have entered “advanced negotiations” to secure a permanent transfer.

The player has also expressed his desire to continue at Estadio Benito Villamarín. He previously claimed in an interview that he is happier there and is finally enjoying his football again after a difficult spell with United.

As part of the loan deal that sent Antony to Real Betis, the Spanish club are covering 84% of his wages, which amount to approximately £140,000 per week.

However, according to ABC Sevilla, there was a clause inserted that Betis would need to pay a £479,000 loan fee to United if he made less than 15 appearances.

The 25-year-old reached that milestone on Sunday, as Los Verdiblancos fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Villarreal.

As a result, Betis have avoided paying the penalty.

ABC Sevilla confirm that Betis are indeed poised to engage United in a bid to make the Antony move a permanent one.

Last month, The i Paper revealed that United want £40m to sanction Antony’s exit.

The forward has also been linked to Real Sociedad, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid, indicating no shortage of potential suitors.

United stars have “rallied around” under-fire ace in a bid to build up his confidence ahead of blockbuster tie – report

Manchester United should have come back from France with a 2-1 win but for Andre Onana’s injury-time mistake that allowed Olympique Lyonnais to equalise with practically the last kick of the game.

The Cameroonian was equally culpable for the first goal conceded last Thursday and it was the United No 1’s eighth direct error since joining the Red Devils, more than any other Premier League keeper.

It almost seemed like Nemanja Matic’s pre-match words came true and Ruben Amorim rightly took him out of the firing line for the league game against Newcastle on Sunday.

There have been reports of the club losing faith in him but his teammates and coach have continued to back him publicly with i News even claiming that the players have supported him wholeheartedly this week in a bid to build up his confidence.

Onana gets backed by teammates

It must be remembered that Amorim is likely to reinstate him for Thursday’s season-defining second leg fixture even though a final decision is yet to be taken.

“Amorim left Onana at home at the weekend so the United stopper could get his head together ahead of his side’s do-or-die Europa League second leg on Thursday.

“While Amorim is expected to stick with Onana for that game after Bayindir failed to impress at St James’ Park, The i Paper has been told no decision has been made yet. Even Onana has been kept in the dark.

“Sources say his Onana’s teammates have been supportive of the under-fire goalkeeper and have rallied around him this week.”

It has been a difficult week personally for the 29-year-old and even his family with the shot-stopper also getting linked with an exit in the summer.

Goalkeeping changes on the cards

The goalie even brought his agent to Carrington recently with his future up in the air. There is interest from Saudi Arabia with the Red Devils reportedly in the market for a new keeper.

As for Altay Bayindir, he failed to cover himself in glory when presented the chance to stake his claim, with his mispass allowing the Magpies to score their fourth of the day.

He is also expected to depart back to his homeland while Tom Heaton could be absorbed into the coaching staff so either way, INEOS might need a revamp in this department.

Multiple keepers from within the country and abroad have been linked with a move and it is up to Onana to try and convince the Portuguese tactician that he can get his act together.

6 crosses, 4 dribbles, 4 key passes, 2 big chances created, 1 assist: United loanee’s Herculian efforts went begging in painful loss

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford dazzled as Aston Villa threatened to pull off a stunning comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Villa Park.

Rashford and his teammates went into the game with the aim of overturning a 3-1 deficit to book their place in the semi-final of the Champions League, but they suffered a setback after going two goals down inside the first 30 minutes.

Bradley Barcola found himself with space down the left and delivered a low cross to try and find Ousmane Dembele in the middle. Emi Martinez got down and got a hand on the ball but could only parry it into the path of Achraf Hakimi, who swept it into the top corner.

Nuno Mendes doubled PSG’s advantage, brilliantly finishing off another counter. It looked like the hosts were done and dusted but they pulled one back through Youri Tielemans, after some good work between himself, Rashford and John McGinn.

Villa came out firing after the restart and they got their reward 10 minutes later, through McGinn, who was allowed to power through the PSG midfield before firing a long-range effort that rose before dipping into the top-right corner and caught Gianluigi Donnarumma wrong-footed. Unai Emery’s side launched another attack soon after, as Rashford drifted in from the left and dispatched a powerful shot towards the corner but he was denied by Donnarumma, who produced a top save.

It didn’t take long for Villa to get their third of the evening and Rashford’s fingerprints were all over it. The United loanee provided an assist for Ezri Konsa’s goal by dancing around a stacked PSG defence down the right before he pulled the ball back to the defender, who planted it into the bottom right.

Rashford nearly fashioned a fourth goal for Villa, putting in a dangerous cross inside the box from a corner-kick routine but Konsa could not make contact with the ball. Villa had other chances, but the likes of Marco Asensio and Tielemans could not hit the target.

Rashford was on the pitch for 76 minutes before he was taken off and replaced by Ollie Watkins. On yet another occasion, Emery elected to have Rashford lead the line ahead of Watkins.

In addition to the assist, the Carrington academy graduate fired two shots, both of which were on target and forced the PSG goalkeeper to swing into immediate action.

The forward completed four of the nine dribbles he embarked on and missed one big chance.

He touched the ball 42 times and successfully found his teammates with 11 of the 15 passes he attempted (73% pass accuracy). Four of Rashford’s passes were key passes.

The 27-year-old connected with six of the nine crosses he aimed and created two big chances. He was decent defensively, winning five of the 10 ground duels he delved into and one of the two aerial challenges he vied for. The England international put in one tackle.

It was a brilliant display from the United man, who unfortunately, was on the losing side. Villa are back in action on Saturday when they host Newcastle.

‘Plan confirmed’ – Romano reveals two players who will ‘leave’ Man Utd in the summer

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that he has “confirmed” that Man Utd “plan” on allowing two players to leave in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are having a terrible season with Ruben Amorim’s side now guaranteed to go down as the worst Man Utd side in the Premier League era.

Man Utd are currently 14th in the Premier League without any hope of qualifying for Europe from their league position after winning just ten matches all season.

But they do have a chance of competing in the Champions League next term if they manage to win the Europa League with Man Utd on level terms when they play Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday.

Once they know their fate in that competition then Man Utd can start to plan for next season with a number of players being linked to Old Trafford, while others could move on.

And Romano has revealed that Man Utd have already made a decision on two players with Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton both leaving when their contracts expire in the summer.

Romano wrote on X: ‘Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are both set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, plan confirmed.’

Teddy Sheringham has told Man Utd that it will be hard for them to compete with any of the top clubs in the transfer market this summer.

When asked what four transfer priorities could transform Amorim’s side, Sheringham told casinoapps.com: “It’s a great question really at the moment. I don’t know that there’s many that do spring to mind. The type of players that you need is leaders. I mean, where are you going to get them from now?

“At top dollar, are they going to want to come to United right now? Man City are scouring the market at the moment to reinvest, to get another football squad that were as good as their last (title-winning team).

“So, they’re probably getting the top targets because people want to play for champions. The top players want to play in the top competitions. So, it’s going to be hard for Manchester United to even compete with these clubs now.

“Liverpool and City are going to be first and second on the list when a top player becomes available. This is what happens when you fall down the pecking order. I’d rather go to City or Liverpool or Real Madrid or Barcelona, that’s what they will be thinking.

“As for picking players, I really don’t know where I’d start. It’s a management rebuilding position now. They’ve fallen that low down the pecking It’s not about getting the top players, it’s the ones under that have the tenacity and the enthusiasm and the optimism of going to the next level, of taking a club to the next level but haven’t been there themselves.

“Maybe a Micky van de Ven, who’s been inspirational at Tottenham. Whether you’d be able to get Van de Ven from Tottenham is another question. That is the type of player that you would look at and the type of player that Manchester United should be targeting.”
