“He’s a nightmare”: Roy Keane hails “impossible to stop” United loanee after recent blistering display

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has heaped praise on club loanee Marcus Rashford for his outstanding performance despite Aston Villa’s defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

Villa’s hopes of finishing within the Champions League places suffered a significant setback as City beat them 2-1 at the Etihad.

The reigning Premier League champions took the lead just seven minutes in through Bernardo Silva but Rashford drew them level, converting from the penalty spot after Jacob Ramsey was illegally brought down inside the box by Ruben Dias.

However, with the last kick of the game, Matheus Nunes won the game for City and shattered the hearts of the Villa players and fans.

Rashford was Villa’s primary source of threat. He struck the post early on with a good effort after a fine bit of skill to take out Dias. The England international also had another big chance to put the visitors in the lead in the second half but he couldn’t hit the target.

Rashford was on the pitch for 76 minutes before he was taken off and replaced by Ollie Watkins.

Speaking on Sky Sports [as quoted by GOAL] after the final whistle, Keane was very complimentary of Rashford.

The legendary United captain remarked, “He was a threat tonight, he had a really big chance in the second half but when there is grass in front of him he is as good as any player.”

“Ask the defenders, he is a nightmare. It is almost impossible to stop.”

Keane added, “The problem for Villa is they are running out of games and the goal difference is a problem. They are well organised, but they give up late goals and that will be costly.”

“There will be one or two twists but where you are in a position to draw, don’t lose, keep the momentum and city near you.”

“You have seen the reaction of City, they know what a big moment it was last kick of the game.”

Rashford’s future remains uncertain as the transfer window nears. Earlier today on Wednesday, it was suggested that the 27-year-old has not entirely shut the door on lining up for United again.

Villa can make his signing permanent for £40m.

Man Utd: Amorim blow as ‘huge issue’ could force Rashford to come ‘back’ to Old Trafford

Man Utd may have to welcome Marcus Rashford back to the club in the summer after a ‘big issue’ continues to cause problems, according to reports.

The Red Devils allowed Rashford to leave on loan to Aston Villa at the end of the January transfer window after his relationship with Ruben Amorim broke down.

Man Utd boss Amorim played Rashford for the last time on December 12 against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League being leaving him out of every match until his eventual departure.

Since joining Aston Villa, Rashford has been in brilliant form and has no doubt convinced the Villans to sign him in the summer if they can justify the outlay.

But Unai Emery admitted after Rashford produced a brilliant performance in a recent Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain that it will be “difficult” for Aston Villa to sign him.

Emery said: “It (signing him in the summer) is difficult to plan now. He’s feeling comfortable and better. He played a fantastic match.

READ: Are you switching off? Is it the football, the money or the tired old way it is broadcast?

“If he’s happy, we are happy. Then, of course, it depends on the circumstances and what happens in the next weeks, and (what we have) in the next year as well.”

And now TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey claims that the Man Utd forward’s wages could continue to cause problems in the summer as he seeks a permanent transfer away from Old Trafford.

Bailey wrote on X: ‘As it stands Ruben Amorim does not want Marcus Rashford back at Manchester United. But with his wages still a massive issue for Aston Villa or any interested club, he could very well end up back at Old Trafford.’

In the article with TBR Football, Bailey added that ‘Rashford and United are waiting to see how things play out’ with ‘all parties are very much aware it is a subject that will be back on their agenda in their near future.’

The report continues:

‘Rashford, for his part, is keeping his options open, with his camp looking already towards some big clubs.

‘TBR Football sources say Villa would be open to taking him on permanently, but his wages remain a huge issue.

‘Amorim was insistent in January he didn’t want him back – could that change? Man United sources don’t believe that is likely at all.’

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit insists Rashford should now leave Man Utd permanently after showcasing his ability at Aston Villa.

Petit said: “Rashford is having a good time at Aston Villa. Step by step, he has to return to his best level. And for the last two, three years, I think he disappeared from the radar, so the most important thing for him is to get back to his best level by paying regular football.

“He made the move in January and was back in the England squad. It looks like he made the right decision for his own career in terms of leaving United. Should he go back to Manchester United in the summer? I don’t think so.

“Rashford needs to concentrate on getting his fitness and his game back. That’s his number one priority between now and the summer. He shouldn’t be thinking about where he will be playing next season, he should be thinking, ‘I’ve been given a chance to rehabilitate myself, playing under a top manager at a top club, playing Champions League football,’ I need to use this opportunity to get my passion back and show the world I’m a top player.

“At Manchester United, he disappeared for a couple of years. The most important thing for him is to come back to the right level. And then after that, maybe he can think about something else, but put those thoughts on ice right now.”

Man Utd ‘ask’ for Real Betis star as they ‘propose swap deal’ for Antony in ‘discounted’ transfer

Man Utd are hoping to include a Real Betis player in any deal they strike for Antony in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils allowed Antony to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window after making no Premier League starts under Erik ten Hag or Ruben Amorim this season.

Antony has struggled to make an impact in his two and a half seasons at Man Utd and the last few months on loan at Betis have seen him reinvigorated.

The Brazil international has five goals and two assists in 17 matches in all competitions with the Man Utd loanee contributing towards Real Betis’ push towards potential Champions League qualification.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are now just one point off the Champions League places in La Liga and Antony has played a key role in their positive end to the season.

Real Betis are keen on bringing him back to the Estadio Benito Villamarin in the summer on a permanent transfer after turning around Antony’s career.

READ: Are you switching off? Is it the football, the money or the tired old way it is broadcast?

The Spanish side’s sporting director Manu Fajardo said recently: “Here, we work on devalued players, analysing data from players who have reached very high moments and peaks, but who for various reasons have significantly decreased their performances.

“In Antony’s case, he has performed since minute one at Betis.

“The player quickly integrated into the project and has demonstrated spectacular performances since his arrival.”

Real Betis star Isco added: “We hope that Antony will remain at the club, but in football, nothing can be taken for granted. We need to do crowdfunding to bring Antony in!”

And now reports in Spain claim that Man Utd have ‘asked’ for one of Antony’s team-mates at Betis in order to do a permanent deal with the Spanish side.

Man Utd ‘proposes a swap deal’ that could see the need for Real Betis to fork out a huge fee with the Red Devils keen on bringing Jesus Rodriguez to Old Trafford.

The report adds:

‘It’s only logical that they’re already doing everything possible to retain him, as he’s due to return to Manchester United in June, a club that still retains his federation rights. The problem is that it’s a truly complicated and expensive transaction.

‘Because we mustn’t forget that the Red Devils paid €95 million for the Brazilian international, which they aren’t willing to give away. They’re demanding compensation of around €50 million to finally open the door for him to leave. This is an amount Heliópolis can’t afford, but the English club is willing to offer a significant discount if they include Jesús Rodríguez in the negotiations.

‘Old Trafford has also been pleasantly surprised by the performances of the promising 19-year-old winger, and they have the Betis star on their radar.

‘The big question Betis will have to answer is whether they’re willing to sacrifice Jesús, who many believe could be a legend like Joaquín Sánchez, in order to retain Antony. Because Pellegrini has made it very clear throughout that he hopes to continue counting on Rodríguez for much longer.’

Picture: Amorim calls up “brilliant” academy wonderkid for training but United want him gone in the summer – report

Manchester United are next in Premier League action against Bournemouth on Sunday and Ruben Amorim is expected to rotate heavily keeping in mind the upcoming Europa League semi-final.

Just like Tyler Fredricson earned his senior debut and Harry Amass earned back-to-back league starts, more opportunities are expected for academy graduates.

On Wednesday, the head coach called up five youngsters of which two were new names — Zach Baumann and Dan Gore. The later is still technically on loan at Rotherham United, whom he joined on loan in January.

The 20-year-old has been desperately unlucky with injuries, having to cut short his loan spell with the Millers after only one League One game.

Gore’s poor injury record

Incidentally, his previous loan spell at Port Vale ended under similar circumstances with the Carrington graduate managing a solitary appearance before returning to Manchester after picking up an injury.

The England U20 international is expected to head back to Rotherham for their last two games but before that, Amorim called him up for senior team training.

It was great to see Dan Gore back in training this morning 🙌#MUFC pic.twitter.com/klbo2hcQC7

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) April 23, 2025

Gore has already played twice for the United senior team last year, becoming the 247th academy star to make his senior bow, back when Erik ten Hag was boss.

He made one Premier League appearance and one in the Carabao Cup. However, given his terrible luck with injuries, FourFourTwo have claimed that the Red Devils are looking to move him on permanently in the summer.

“Dan Gore, who joined Rotherham United on loan earlier this season, was spotted taking part in training and joined big names such as Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes in the session.

United have run out of patience

“The 20-year-old returned from his loan spell with the Millers after picking up a foot injury. FourFourTwo understands the Red Devils are looking to loan, or even sell Gore, during the summer transfer window.”

The Mancunian’s present deal is valid until 2026 and he has a market value of nearly €1 million and it will count as pure profit owing to his homegrown status.

Another loan exit does not make sense given Gore’s track record. Lower league EFL clubs should be ready to take a punt on the “brilliant” wonderkid while there surprisingly, there was interest from Borussia Dortmund in the past.

Maybe, INEOS will include a buyback or sell-on clause in that case to maximise profit as they have done with plenty of recent outgoings.

(Video) “I’m assured…”: David Ornstein delivers gutting United transfer news fans were dreading to hear

The reliable David Ornstein has revealed that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is not a player Manchester United are pursuing ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are eyeing reinforcements in the striker position amidst Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles and Osimhen’s name has repeatedly popped up.

The Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray but he hasn’t missed a beat, scoring an impressive 21 goals and providing an additional four assists in 25 Super League matches. Osimhen has plundered 30 goals in 35 games across all competitions.

The 26-year-old’s time at Napoli appears to be over, especially after his failed attempt to engineer a move last summer. This time around, a departure seems inevitable.

In addition to United, the 26-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. However, in recent weeks, speculation surrounding a potential move to the Red Devils has intensified.

A report from Turkey suggested that United have reached an agreement on personal terms with the player’s representatives. It was later claimed that Napoli and Ruben Amorim’s side also agreed on the terms of a transfer to Old Trafford.

Ornstein has now set the record straight, insisting these reports are wide off the mark. In fact, Ornstein explains that Osimhen is unlikely to join United in the summer.

Speaking on NBC Sports, Osimhen said, “The priority for Manchester United in this upcoming transfer window is attack. They’re looking at a centre forward and a No. 10 as their main focus and they want to get on with it pretty quickly. The finances are in place, as I understand it, to do the deals they would like to do. They do not depend on European football, I’m told, nor on sales to necessitate them.”

“Their main focus for the No. 10 position is Matheus Cunha. He wants to come but personal terms still need to be agreed, which is not a formality. Let’s see if other clubs come in for him but there is optimism at Old Trafford that they can land him. They have alternatives – the likes of Antoine Semenyo and Tyler Dibling. But Cunha is the one they’re focusing on. It’s not close yet but I could see this one developing rapidly.”

“In the striker position, it’s Liam Delap of Ipswich Town as their target. He has a £30m release clause if Ipswich are relegated but they’re also a lot of other suitors for him, including Chelsea, so there’s not guarantee that will happen.”

“I think Delap will decide before the U21 European Championship on where he wants to go. If United want to look at others, I’m assured it will not be Victor Osimhen, despite reports that you might be reading.”

“He is not on the agenda for United. They will have other options because they might have to, or they’ll stick to internal solutions like Rasmus Hojlund and focus on other positions. Those positions may be more dependent on sales – the likes of Marcus Rashford. Aston Villa have an option to buy him, let’s see if they get into the Champions League and whether they are the proposition he wants to join and also if they can afford him.”

Ornstein also noted that Rashford could potentially seek a move elsewhere, particularly given his long-standing interest in playing in La Liga – most notably in the colours of Barcelona.

The Athletic journalist noted that Rashford’s departure alongside others such as Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, Hojlund, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof could raise a lot of money for United that they could reinvest on bringing in fresh players.

Premier League insider @David_Ornstein shares the latest on Arsenal and Manchester United as the summer transfer window gets closer. pic.twitter.com/h8CkzphZjX

— NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) April 23, 2025

Ornstein’s latest update will no doubt come as a blow to a section of United fans, many of whom have been vocal in their desire to see a striker of Osimhen’s calibre arrive at Old Trafford. Proven goal-scorers of his quality are a rare commodity, and his profile fits exactly what the club has been lacking up front.

Should United secure Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League, they’ll hopefully reignite their pursuit of Osimhen. The added prestige and financial boost could put them in a stronger position to lure the prolific striker to their ranks.

United gifted timely advantage in quest for Europa glory as another key Athletic star picks up an injury

Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final opponents, Athletic Club, have suffered a major setback with Oihan Sancet picking up an injury ahead of the crucial clash.

United booked their place in the last four after a sensational comeback in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against French outfit Olympique Lyonnais.

The Red Devils currently have all their eggs in the Europa League, amidst a wretched Premier League season that currently has them in 14th place in the Premier League. Lifting the trophy would not only deliver much-needed silverware but also secure a coveted spot in next season’s Champions League.

Ruben Amorim recently emphasised the importance of going all the way in the Europa League, citing just how big of a difference it could make in the upcoming transfer window.

The additional revenue generated from Champions League qualification could prove crucial for United, providing the financial boost needed to pursue top transfer targets and strengthen the squad ahead of next season.

Last week, Athletic Club confirmed that Nico Williams had suffered a groin injury. The setback ensured Williams missed Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Now, another key player for the La Liga side has sustained an injury. Oihan Sancet was forced off with an apparent physical issue during the first half of Athletic’s meeting with Las Palmas on Wednesday.

Sancet was on the pitch for only 22 minutes before he was withdrawn, unable to carry on.

The Spaniard was in pain after picking up a knock and had to be replaced by Peio Canales. Sancet’s first chance to return will of course be next week’s Europa League match vs. United.

22′ Sub for Athletic.

1-0 I #AthleticLasPalmas #AthleticClub 🦁 pic.twitter.com/pqV6Sx28YC

— Athletic Club (@Athletic_en) April 23, 2025

The 24-year-old has been instrumental for Athletic this season and is their top scorer.

He has plundered 15 goals and provided one assist in 24 top-flight appearances. Sancet has registered two goals and as many assists in the Europa League.

Should he miss the clash with United, he will certainly be a big miss for Athletic but one less headache for Amorim.

But, it’s not all bad news for Athletic as Williams was named on the bench for the 1-0 win over Las Palmas. The winger even had a taste of the action as he came on in the 65th minute for Álex Berenguer.

For now, United’s full attention is on Sunday’s game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

United’s arch-rivals plotting to hijack Matheus Cunha deal, Amorim will demand INEOS to win the race at any cost – report

Manchester United are currently seen as favourites for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha with Ruben Amorim a known admirer of the Brazilian.

The Red Devils are eager to get the deal done as quickly as possible with the head coach keen to add a versatile goalscoring option to his ranks.

The former Atletico Madrid star can play as a striker, as one of the attacking midfielders and can even do a job out wide, something Amorim has seen first-hand.

Also, with Wolves playing in a similar style as the Red Devils, the 25-year-old is expected to hit the ground running and will not take too much time to adapt to the Portuguese tactician’s style.

Arsenal also like Cunha

But as Givemesport have revealed, Arsenal also like the Wolves talisman and are weighing up whether to try and hijack United’s potential deal.

However, the Gunners are not fully convinced with Cunha’s underlying stats while they seem to prefer Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, another target for the 20-time English league champions, over the Brazil international.

This means United are in pole position to land the Olympic gold-medallist who has twice the number of goals as Rasmus Hojlund and is a more natural fit as compared to Alejandro Garnacho.

“Arsenal have been weighing up a move for Matheus Cunha but are wary of getting dragged into a transfer tug-of-war for the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward.

Forest as well

“The Gunners admire the Brazilian’s impact at Molineux and have been impressed by his goalscoring return. There is also an admiration for his versatility and game-changing ability as boss Mikel Arteta goes in search of fresh creativity and firepower.

“However, sources say there is hesitation behind the scenes over whether his output is truly sustainable at the very highest level, while there is also some concern around his discipline.”

Interestingly, Nottingham Forest are also known admirers of the Brazilian, who is holding out for a move to a more prestigious club.

This suits United with the versatile attacker open to moving to Old Trafford even without Champions League football. The fact that Wolves would be open to a installment-based deal makes it even more perfect for INEOS.

United make contact over summer deal for unreal €60m attacker shredding La Liga defences for fun – report

Manchester United have reportedly sounded out a move for Villareal forward Alex Baena ahead of the transfer window.

United are believed to be eyeing reinforcements in the attacking department following an immensely difficult season that has seen them struggle to consistently score goals.

United’s main attacking trio—Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho—have collectively scored just 11 Premier League goals this season, a disappointing return by any standard.

The burden of finding the back of the net and creating goalscoring opportunities for the team has squarely fallen on the shoulders of club captain Bruno Fernandes. He has done well but it’s crystal clear the Portuguese needs a lot of help moving forward.

United continue to be linked with a host of striking options, including Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Liam Delap (Ipswich Town), Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig), and Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting Lisbon). The club is also exploring reinforcements for the number 10 role, which has led to reported interest in Rayan Cherki (Lyon), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), and Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton Wanderers).

Now, Diario AS journalist Eduardo Burgos claims the Red Devils are looking at Villareal’s Alex Baena.

Burgos notes that Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are also interested in Baena and believe they’re frontrunners to secure his signature.

“Atleti are confident of securing Alex Baena before the Club World Cup.”

“They have already contacted his entourage to express interest in signing him. There are currently no official negotiations with Villarreal.”

“Bayern Munich and Manchester United have also inquired about the player.”

— Eduardo Burgos (@edu17burgos) April 23, 2025

This is not the first time Baena has been mentioned to be on United’s radar. His name popped up in 2023 but needless to say, a transfer never materialised.

The 23-year-old predominantly plays on the left side of the attack. He has made 27 La Liga appearances this term, notching an impressive six goals and eight assists.

With Marcus Rashford poised to leave United permanently in the summer, it makes sense why United are targeting a player of Baena’s profile.

His contract with Villareal expires in 2028 and is believed to contain a release clause worth €60m.

Man Utd want £40m discount on Newcastle star after identifying ‘ideal’ replacements for departing pair

Manchester United have identified their ‘ideal’ replacements for midfield duo Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, according to reports.

United currently sit 14th in the Premier League after a miserable campaign which has seen Ruben Amorim replace Erik ten Hag as manager but their poor performances and results continue under the Portuguese boss.

There remains hope of a trophy and possible Champions League football next season through Europa League glory as the Red Devils prepare for a semi-final against Athletic Club, with the carrot of competing in Europe’s showcase competition huge for potential new recruits and for those tasked with rebuilding the squad thanks to the money they will receive as a result.

Amorim wants to put his own stamp on the squad having struggled to implement his philosophy and system having arrived in November, and while a new striker is thought to be a priority, midfielders will also be high on the agenda amid doubts over the futures of Eriksen and Casemiro.

Eriksen’s contract expires in the summer and the Denmark international admitted last month that he’s “prepared to find something new”.

“I haven’t thought about it that much,” Eriksen said when asked about his future. It’s the same principle as last time, the contract expires in the summer, so in my head, I’m prepared to find something new. I’m actually fine with that, whatever it is, it’s not something I’ve decided yet.”

Casemiro meanwhile has another year left on his deal come the end of the season but United hope to be fielding offers in order to get his £350,000 per week salary off their wage bill.

And Spanish outlet Fichajes claim United have ‘launched an ambitious reconstruction’ by identifying Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes as the ‘ideal replacements’.

The report states:

‘The Old Trafford team sees in Wharton, of the Crystal Palace, an emerging jewel of English football. His growth has been meteoric this season, and his ability to recover balls and link lines makes him a very attractive piece for any team with European aspirations. However, his signing will not be easy, since several top-level clubs have already asked about him, raising his market value.

‘For his part, Bruno Guimarães has been one of the pillars of Newcastle since his arrival, and although his continuity seems assured by the ‘Magpies’, United has not ruled out moving if the opportunity opens up. His presence would provide quality and immediate leadership.’

United’s ‘roadmap is drawn’ as they look to ‘renew the heart of the team’ with the Premier League pair, though the report adds that ‘the difficulty lies in the cost and competition’.

It’s thought Palace want £70m for Wharton while Newcastle won’t listen to offers below £100m for Guimaraes, unless they fail to qualify for the Champions League, in which case his asking price could drop to just £60m.

United cooking up audacious summer swoop for disgruntled Man City ace eager to jump ship – report

Manchester United are reportedly one of a number of clubs, both within England and abroad, eyeing a summer move for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee.

United are expected to dip into the market for midfield reinforcements who suit the way Ruben Amorim wants to play football. There is also the fact that Christian Eriksen is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract and the uncertainty surrounding Casemiro, despite his resurgence in the past few games.

The Red Devils continue to be linked to a number of midfielders including Ederson (Atalanta), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland) and Chris Rigg (Sunderland), just to mention a few names.

Now, The Telegraph reveal that United are keeping tabs on City’s McAtee.

But Amorim’s side are not the only party that retain an admiration for the player. Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen have lined him up in case they lose Morgan Gibbs-White and Florian Wirtz, respectively.

City have identified Gibbs-White and Wirtz as their top two targets to replace the departing Kevin de Bruyne.

James Ducker notes that AC Milan and Newcastle are the other clubs monitoring McAtee, who is desperate for regular first-team minutes.

The 22-year-old started in City’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday evening but that was just his second Premier League start this season.

He has made 24 appearances across all competitions, notching an impressive seven goals in that period.

Leverkusen tried to loan McAtee in January with the option of making his signing a permanent one for £25m but City were not interested in letting him go at the time.

Whether United choose to act on their interest in the Salford-born talent remains to be seen. What promises to be even more intriguing is how City might respond to an approach from their cross-town rivals.

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Sunday when they go away to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth.
