Manchester United were expected to have it tough against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, considering their recent record against the Red Devils. Despite some questionable refereeing, United emerged 4-2 victors at Old Trafford with Matheus Cunha opening his account for the club while Casemiro got one and Bryan Mbeumo grabbed a brace. Despite his impressive form, question marks had been raised about the ex-Wolves forward due to his lack of goals and assists up till this point. And as revealed by the 26-year-old after the game, it had been weighing heavily on his mind. But the wonder strike against the Seagulls will go a long way in helping him rebuild his confidence moving forward. Matheus Cunha finally breaks his duck His teammates were quick to joke about it as soon as he found the back of the net, with the attacking midfielder delighted that he could contribute to a famous win. “Yeah, finally!,” said the Brazil international in comments relayed by the club website. “Wow. I worked so hard for this. The win for starters, to come in and I’m so happy. “But of course I want a little bit more contribution and then today’s coming, [but] we win and then everything’s fine.” On whether the goal drought was affecting him, the versatile attacker said, “Of course. We have little actions but when you play in the front, you have to score goals. “I have to have more contributions. But the last time I said this, if my participation is to help the team and then we start doing well, I’ll be happy also. “But of course with this goal, everyone will be around me to push me. The guys started to joke and then said: ‘Wow, you can score!’. These things happen and everyone pushes me and I feel so happy to be here.” Three wins on the trot under Ruben Amorim for the first time has meant the team has risen to fourth in the Premier League table. Who would’ve thought that was possible given the initial difficulties and the frenzied media trial asking for the Portuguese tactician to be sacked. Relief for Amorim But as Matheus Cunha explained, the team remains fully behind their head coach, and they are delighted for him as Amorim often gets overstressed when the results do not go the team’s way. “Everyone has full confidence in Ruben Amorim. He is someone that pushes us forward. He is always very stressed until we start to win, and then he improves every day. Of course, he deserves this, Man United deserve this. “This needs to be the normal for this club. I am so happy to be a part of this. Amazing day, I will remember this.” Now for the United No.10 to keep his scoring run going and for the 20-time English league champions to keep climbing up the table. United’s sparkplug vs. Brighton lifts lid on the magic ingredient behind team’s stunning turnaround
Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has revealed a key change that is inspiring his side’s remarkable upturn, following the 4-2 win against Brighton and Hove Albion. Mbeumo leads United to big win vs. Brighton Mbeumo bagged a sensational brace against Brighton as United clinched a third consecutive Premier League victory on Saturday. Matheus Cunha gave United the lead in the 24th minute, producing a brilliant finish. The strike marked Cunha’s first one for United since joining in the summer. Less than 10 minutes later, Casemiro doubled United’s advantage. The veteran midfielder’s effort struck a Brighton player to roll into the back of the net. Mbeumo’s left-footed shot at the hour mark made it 3-0 for United. Brighton threatened a late comeback through goals from Danny Welbeck and Charalampos Kostoulas, but Mbeumo struck again in the 97th minute to seal the win and lift United into fourth place in the Premier League. Mbeumo has taken his tally for United to five goals and one assist in 10 appearances across all competitions. After the final whistle, Mbeumo spoke to Sky Sports and credited United’s resurgence to the “effort and togetherness” of the squad. Mbeumo’s remarks Mbeumo told Sky Sports [as quoted by Daily Star], “I enjoy it a lot here.” “It hasn’t been easy at the start, it’s a new environment, new expectation, but with my link-up with my team, everything is going the right way.” “We all put a lot of work in training, that’s the most important thing.” The Cameroonian continued, “What we do out there we try to repeat on the pitch. We are going to try to understand each other even better.” Asked what has changed at United. Mbeumo answered, “The work we put in, the effort, the togetherness is the key. We try to stick to the plan and try to play as best as possible.” “I like the challenges, I came here to a big club and I want to fight for the best places.” United are back in action next Saturday when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. 2 chances created, 100% long balls, 1 stylish strike: United summer signing finally proves his credentials vs Brighton
Bogey side Brighton and Hove Albion were swept aside by Manchester United 4-2 in their Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday. Referee Anthony Taylor tried his best to help the Seagulls continue their winning run against the Red Devils, overlooking two obvious penalty calls from the home side. But his attempts at frustrating United did not last long as summer signing Matheus Cunha finally opened his account for his new side with a stunning long-range effort. Fellow Brazilian, Casemiro got one while Bryan Mbeumo netted twice but it was delightful to see the ex-Wolves forward finally end his goal drought. Matheus Cunha finally breaks his duck Despite having no goals and assists till now, the 26-year-old has arguably been one of the standout performers for the team this term. He could have broken his duck earlier, but his strike against Fulham had struck the post, while plenty of his rasping drives has been kept out by opposition keepers. Apart from his goal, the Brazil international was a joy to watch with the ball, as he maneuvered past challenges with ease with the ball struck to his foot. He completed two dribbles, and also had two shots on target. Not only that, but the versatile attacker also made two key passes while providing three final third balls. Relentless with and without the ball Without the ball, Matheus Cunha was a non-stop pressing machine, completing nine defensive contributions. Her completed three tackles, one clearance and an interception. Not only that but the United No.10 also recovered the ball four times, while winning two free-kicks due to his tenacity (all stats via fotmob). Hopefully, Saturday’s goal will give him confidence and now, the floodgates will truly open in the games to come. United have now notched three wins on the bounce and Ruben Amorim will be demanding more of the same before the November international break. “He fought and worked”: Amorim lauds United’s Brighton hero after rise from bottom of the pecking order
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has lauded Casemiro after the player’s incredible performance in Saturday’s 4-2 triumph against Brighton and Hove Albion. Casemiro dazzles vs. Brighton Casemiro produced a standout performance as United clinched all three points against Brighton at Old Trafford. United’s goals were netted by Matheus Cunha, Casemiro and Bryan Mbeumo before Danny Welbeck convered a free-kick to give the visitors some hope of mounting a comeback. Charalampos Kostoulas scored another late strike to make it 3-2, but Mbeumo completed his brace in the 97th minute of proceedings to ensure United ran out winners. Casemiro was sensational for United. In addition to his goal, he also registered an assist for Cunha’s opener. In his post-match press conference, Amorim praised the Brazilian, highlighting his mentality to claw back from the brink of oblivion to becoming a key player once again. Amorim’s post-match presser Amorim told reporters, “It was really important, also the performance. We had to play different games in different moments of the game. I think the players understood really well what to do in every moment. We suffered a little bit in the end, but it would not be Manchester United in the end without suffering a little bit.” “I think we deserved the win against a very good team. A team that is hard to press really high, but we did well.” Asked whether the team is starting to shape up in his image, Amorim answered, “I think they [players] are more confident. I think the best game that we did this season was against Arsenal. The first one.” But then when you are a little bit more confident …when you have a but more spirit, yu can get a little bit lucky in certain moments of the game that can help you win games. That is what I’m feeling now – that we are a little bit more free playing the game.” On whether he now has the confidence to speak to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, now that results have improved, Amorim answered, “It’s more for the fans.” “I never had that feeling of embarrassment of what I was doing or not winning games. It’s more with the fans because I always felt that Jim believes and knows what we’re doing. With the fans it’s a little bit different. But what I feel is the urgency of not losing in this moment because it’s so hard and in football everything can change in one week. So let’s enjoy today and focus on the next one.” Asked about United’s aggressive pressing, Amorim explained, “That was the plan. And then when we have Harry Maguire, we can defend our box. So we can play a little bit lower. But when you have players who can press high, it does not matter maybe. But Luke is not really tall. But he’s fast and aggressive. We can press highwe and we know that they are so confident that if we win the ball, we have the players in front of the goal.” “They are so good that you just need one chance when you win the ball, and I think we did really well, especially in the first half. On Cunha, Amorim hailed the player’s willingness to always take on responsibility, particularly when things are not going too well for the team. Amorim insisted that beyond Cunha’s goal, he enjoyed the Brazilian’s defensive efforts. Another player Amorim opened up on is Casemiro. He remarked about the veteran midfielder, “He gives a lot of experience. He’s an example for everyone. In the beginning, he was behind every midfielder, even Toby [Collyer]. But he fought and he worked and now he’s back in the national team. He’s so important for us. Today he ran a lot and had to press so high and then return, and he’s doing that.” “So I’m really pleased with him and the other guys need to look at Casemiro. We understand that football can change really fast. You just need to work for me if I think you are the best one, or I think you are the best one. You are going to play the game if you do the right things.” The Portuguese coach admitted that United are benefiting from the absence of European football, giving the squad extra time to work on the training ground. Asked about Mbeumo and what he brings to the side, Amorim said, “He’s a working machine. He’s so good in transitions. He’s improving when we are organised in the final third. The connection with Amad – it’s really hard to beat these two guys because they change position, they are really fast and they are good in one vs. one.” “My role as a manager was to explain what I want from him. But it was more the club [convincing Mbeumo to join in the summer].” United are back in action on Saturday when they take go away to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest. What Ruben appreciates most in his forwards
What Ruben appreciates most in his forwardsSaturday 25 October 2025 21:21Ruben Amorim is delighted with the work ethic of Manchester United’s front three, even considering their attacking output.Bryan Mbeumo scored twice in the 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, after Matheus Cunha opened his account for the club with a lovely finish to get the ball rolling. Benjamin Sesko was prominent before being substituted, and supplied the assist for Mbeumo’s first effort, with Casemiro also on the scoresheet on a good night for everybody of a Reds persuasion.”They have a lot of talent,” Ruben said of his forwards, in his interviews with Sky Sports and MUTV. “But I really like the way they defend. “Especially the three in front. I think Cunha did a great job defending and was completely different from the first games. “Bryan is a working machine. Every time we kick the ball, Ben was there and those are the details.”We can have all the talent in the world but, if we don’t fight, in this league, you have no chance. “So, if we fight, our players, they have the talent to decide the games. “I like the way they defend, they fought for the team and that was really incredible.” Click here to buy tickets on general sale for the home games against Everton and West Ham United.Recommended:’Everything becomes natural’ Video’Everything becomes natural’Nani talks of his pride to represent the club at ILOVEUNITED, as he rates our recent signings…Amorim’s press conference VideoAmorim’s press conferencePRESS CONFERENCE | Ruben Amorim was asked a range of questions from the media following United’s win over Brighton…Saturday 25 October 2025 21:21Back to Top
“He can hide that, but I understood it”: Amorim gives surprise update on United goalscorer
Manchester United’s 4-2 triumph over Brighton and Hove Albion was significant for several reasons. It left the Red Devils, temporarily at least, in fourth place in the Premier League, and was also a rare win over one of United’s biggest bogey sides. But it also makes it three wins on the bounce for Ruben Amorim, a feat the Portuguese had never managed in a tumultuous year in charge. A matter of confidence Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day after the game, Amorim admitted “it is a good feeling” to have secured three points in front of an Old Trafford crowd. “To listen to the crowd, the joy, it is important, he said. “We need to enjoy that today but then prepare for the next one.” The next one sees United travel to troubled Nottingham Forest, and Amorim’s side will be hoping to build on a run of good form which really kicked off in last week’s win over Liverpool. Discussing that triumph, Amorim said: “It is a very good boost, but again in our club, we have to maintain that with hard work, and when you are confident, you play better. “You have better moments and a little bit of luck when you have the right spirit, so everything is in our favour at the moment, but we have to keep working hard to maintain that.” Change in spirit The Red Devils looked to be cruising to an unusually comfortable win after Matheus Cunha made it 3-0, but allowed the Seagulls to pull it back to 3-2. There was a familiar feeling of dread inside Old Trafford, but this time United toughed it out and Bryan Mbeumo’s second of the game ensured a happy ending. Reflecting on the nervy last period, Amorim said: “It is hard [at 3-2], but we had some moments in the past when the spirit was a little bit different, and we suffered more. “But today we scored the last goal because I felt we could deal with bad moments in a better way than we showed last year. And when you have a better spirit, you have a bit of luck.” Cunha hitting his stride After an impressive performance at Anfield, the only thing Cunha was missing since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers was a goal. The Brazilian finally made it onto the scoresheet today with a beautiful goal, and Amorim gave some insight into the player’s progress. He said: “He was struggling [previously]. He can hide that, but I understood that. It is not a surprise the way he responded at Anfield or played today with and without the ball, and that is going to be massive for us.” Cunha has been giving it both barrels since he moved to Old Trafford in the summer and has certainly not been visibly struggling on the pitch so Amorim’s comment may come as a surprise, but the promise of more to come is mouthwatering for fans. Amorim added: “He needs to score goals; he suffers when he doesn’t score, but he is a top player who decides games. “Everything can change really quickly, but if you have that feeling and still feel confident to work, we are going to be a better team.” Featured image Carl Recine via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. 9 duels won, 3 tackles, 3 dribbles: United talisman shone in his new role as changing of the guard continues
Manchester United made it three wins on the bounce thanks to a thrilling 4-2 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. United have long struggled against the Seagulls but went 3-0 up and looked comfortable at Old Trafford today. Brighton pulled two goals back to give Ruben Amorim serious cause for concern, but a last-minute Bryan Mbeumo strike secured the points, and a significant win for the Red Devils. Bruno’s milestone United captain Bruno Fernandes wasn’t able to mark his 300th appearance for the club with a goal or an assist but was still a key player for United. In many ways today’s win felt like a changing of the guard, as a goal from Matheus Cunha and a brace for Mbeumo showed that Amorim’s new number 10s mean business. Fernandes, operating from his now customary deeper role, still got four shots away – two on target, one off target and one blocked – but didn’t need to provide a goal to bail the Red Devils out. He made two key passes, as did Cunha and Mbeumo, and completed three of his five attempted dribbles – only Mbeumo beat his man more often. While it wasn’t recorded as an assist, Fernandes’ dummy for Mbeumo’s emphatic second was the key action which created the goal. Comfortable in new role In an indication of where the game was mostly played Fernandes was United’s most effective defender today, with eight defensive actions. Nobody on his side made more than his three tackles which he supplemented with two interceptions, two clearances and a blocked shot. As is so often the case, the 31-year-old was the heartbeat of his side when in possession. He took 82 touches, 22 more than anyone else in red, and completed 42 of his 49 attempted passes for an 86% completion rate. He was also the most combative in the duel, winning nine of the 16 ground duels he contested, at least two more than any of his team mates. He lost out in both contested aerial duels but was United’s most-fouled player, illegally brought down three times. Stats taken from sofascore. 5 recoveries, 4 ground duels won, 1 assist, 1 goal: United star delivered a throwback masterclass in win vs. Brighton
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro delivered a throwback masterclass, helping his side to a 4-2 win against Brighton and Hove Albion. United beat Brighton Brighton started as the slightly better side at Old Trafford, but it was United who broke the deadlock. Matheus Cunha got on the end of a Casemiro pass and produced an outstanding finish into the bottom corner. It was Cunha’s first goal for United. Casemiro doubled United’s lead not too long after, although he was aided by a huge slice of luck. His shot deflected off a Brighton player before rolling into the back of the net, with Bart Vebruggen well and truly beaten. Bryan Mbeumo extended the lead to 3-0 on the hour with a brilliant left-footed strike, and United appeared to be cruising. However, Brighton hit back with two goals to spark a potential comeback. Danny Welbeck scored a sumptuous free-kick before Charalampos Kostoulas headed home from a corner. But, United had the last laugh, with Mbeumo smashing the ball into the roof of the net in the 97th minute of proceedings. The result has seen the Red Devils move up to fourth place in the Premier League table, just three points adrift of table leaders Arsenal. The Gunners have a game in hand. Casemiro’s performance Beyond his goal and assist, Casemiro was outstanding and his performance rightly earned him a standing ovation at Old Trafford when he was substituted. He successfully found his teammates with 25 of the 32 passes he attempted (78% individual pass accuracy). 15 of his passes were delivered into the opposition half. Casemiro also connected with two of the four long balls he pinged. The Brazilian touched the ball 48 times. He was brilliant defensively, contributing one tackle and twice as many interceptions. He also made one clearance and blocked one shot. Casemiro made five recoveries and won four of the six ground duels he delved into. (Stats obtained from Sofascore) United are back in action next Saturday when they make their way to the City Ground to take on Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest. “Those two will win a lot of football matches:” Gary Neville reckons these players will be key to United’s success following crucial win over Brighton
Manchester United enjoyed a convincing 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night, producing one of their best attacking displays in recent memory. It was Ruben Amorim’s third win on the trot, his longest winning streak since becoming Man United manager a little under a year ago. But while it was an impressive match from most of the home team’s lineup, former United captain Gary Neville is of the opinion that two players in particular stood out from the pack. The standout stars “I think Mbeumo and Cunha, I think the risk was removed from those signings in the sense that they’ve been in the Premier League before and they’ve got that hunger to deliver a different level,” Neville explained on Sky Sports following the full-time whistle. “There are a lot of things about those signings that you felt more comfortable with,” Neville continued, before singling out Bryan Mbeumo for praise. “I think that Mbeumo looks like he belongs, he looks hungry, he looks like he wants to score goals,” Neville continued. He then layered praise onto both Cunha and Mbeumo alike, declaring, “Those two will win a lot of football matches for this club.” Neville also explained how he reckons United should utilise the two number 10s in order to maximise their results going forward. Recipe for success “If those two can stay up front, live up front in those spaces, the other eight or nine players in the team can just be the foundation for them and sort of keep clean sheets and defend well; those two will win a lot of football matches,” Neville outlined. While this seems to be a lot of pressure to put on the shoulders of just two players, it does seem that they have the talent to pull it off. Mbeumo was clinical with his two goals, while Cunha’s long-range strike proved just how opportunistic he can be, while once again showing his great determination to score goals for United. Needless to say, these two have proven to be highly successful signings, both of whom could play a key role in lifting United to new heights as the season wears on. Referee Anthony Taylor tried his best to help Brighton, but United’s summer signings had other ideas
Most pundits opined Manchester United’s real test after the Anfield triumph was getting the better of Brighton and Hove Albion, a team who has had their number in recent seasons. The Seagulls had six wins out of seven heading into Saturday’s game and the pressure was on Ruben Amorim to get the better of the club’s bogey side. And in front of a full Old Trafford, the Red Devils performed and how, overpowering the team from South Coast 4-2. The win means three wins on the bounce, the first time the team has achieved this feat under the head coach. Referee Anthony Taylor tried his best to ruin the occasion, not giving as many as three penalties to the hosts, while a lot of obvious fouls were also not awarded, much to the dismay of the Old Trafford faithful. Referee did not want United to win Both Amad and Bryan Mbeumo should have been awarded penalties for blatant fouls inside the box, which VAR also surprisingly overlooked. There was a danger of United becoming frustrated as long as the scores remained goalless, but the summer signings had other ideas. Matheus Cunha opened his account for the 20-time English league champions with a brilliant long-ranger. Casemiro then got in on the act before Bryan Mbeumo scored the third from Benjamin Sesko’s assist. The hosts were cruising at that stage, and Amorim made a glut of changes, choosing to hand minutes to fringe stars. That drop-off in momentum allowed Brighton to pounce. Summer signings had other ideas They scored twice, and with six minutes of added time to play, a hush descended upon the Theatre of Dreams. Senne Lammens pulled off a few fine saves to keep United’s slender lead intact. And Mbeumo was also not done yet. He sealed the deal with his second of the game, and as a result, the three-time Champions League winners climbed up to fourth in the Premier League table. Given the amount of criticism Amorim has had to face, the table shows how close United are to the chasing pack. Now the players need to keep this run going so that they can capitalise should the likes of Arsenal, and Manchester City slip up in the weeks to come.
