“Big respect”: Struggling club’s boss heaps praise on United for selfless transfer decision that could save their season

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has praised Manchester United over their selfless transfer decision involving Harry Amass.

Amass joins Wednesday

On transfer deadline day, United confirmed that Amass had completed a loan move to Wednesday, where he will spend the 2025/26 season.

Amass’s future had been the subject of speculation after he was left out of United’s travelling squad for the United States pre-season tour.

He made great strides under Ruben Amorim last term, making his senior debut before going on to notch seven appearances across the Premier League and Europa League. There was plenty of interest in his signature, with the likes of Hull City and reigning Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven exploring moves for him.

However, Wednesday won the race to snap him up, despite the ongoing turmoil at the club.

The Championship side are facing financial troubles, with owner Dejphon Chansiri unable to convince the EFL of his ability to keep the club running.

Due to this, United agreed to pay Amass’s full wages and any other costs of the switch to Hillsborough, including accommodation and bonuses.

This has not gone unrecognised by Pedersen, who thanked the Red Devils for their generosity. Pedersen revealed that several other teams refused to let their players move to Wednesday, but United understood the situation and helped out.

Pedersen lathers United with praise

Pederseon said [as quoted by The Star], “I think we have to be proud. And very thankful. Because what they have done for us is fantastic, and big respect for that.”

“I’m proud because they could see that Sheffield Wednesday would be a good space – a good club – for Harry, and they have shown trust in this direction. On that other hand, what they have done for us is big respect – so thank you…”

He continued, “We had a longer list, and we’d agreed with more players, but they would not allow us to sign them.”

“We had a bigger list, but we’re very happy to have Harry here – so I praise that a lot.”

Amass is in line to make his Wednesday debut on Saturday when the Owls host Bristol City.
