After a difficult 14 months, Manchester United finally pulled the trigger on the Ruben Amorim era. While results have been underwhelming from the start, things came to a head after the head coach’s explosive comments following the Leeds game. He called out director of football Jason Wilcox, while hinting at a lack of control both in terms of incomings as well as when choosing his style of play. And after holding a meeting early on Monday to review what the Portuguese tactician said, INEOS finally decided to pull the plug. Enzo Maresca on United’s shortlist Former United midfielder and current U18s boss Darren Fletcher has taken over on an interim basis, with Wilcox preparing a list of managerial targets. The reliable Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that recently-sacked Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is on the Red Devils’ radar. His record in the Premier League with both City and Chelsea and the fact that he is a free agent should do his chances of taking over at Old Trafford a world of good. He guided the Stamford Bridge side to the Conference League and Club World Cup titles, while also helping City win a treble in the 22/23 season. Omar Berrada pushing for him The Italian manager’s connection with Omar Berrada could prove key, as the United CEO was the one who had brought him back to the Etihad to be Pep Guardiola’s assistant. Interestingly, the report also reveals that the club will hold a meeting to discuss the viability of all the potential candidates on Tuesday. “Enzo Maresca is also on Manchester United’s list to replace Rúben Amorim. “The Red Devils are now looking for another candidate to fill the bench and on the list is also Enzo Maresca, who finished his 2025 contract at Chelsea but is now free. Good permanent choice “CEO Omar Berrada already has a strong connection with the Italian manager, as he was the one who brought him to Manchester City as Guardiola’s assistant. “On Tuesday 6 January, Man Utd should resolve their doubts about the various candidates (Glasner is also among them).” As relayed by The Peoples Person, United played a part in Maresca’s sacking. Now, after destabilising the Blues, United could land their ex-manager in one fell swoop. It looked a certainty that the ex-Leicester City boss was heading back to Manchester City to replace Guardiola ahead of next summer, but United could offer an immediate job opportunity.
