Arsenal sneak ahead of United in race for world-class striker, it’s shaping up to be the transfer battle of the summer – report

Manchester United’s Premier League rivals, Arsenal, have reportedly jumped ahead of them in the race to land Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

United are expected to be in the market for a top-class striker when the window opens and Osimhen’s name has repeatedly come up.

Fabrizio Romano explained that Osimhen – who is currently on loan at Galatasaray – would be open to making the move to United if the club were to reach an agreement with Napoli.

It’s understood the Nigerian superstar wants wages of around £413,000 per week to commit his future to Ruben Amorim’s side.

However, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person suggested that United’s interest in the 26-year-old is not as strong as it’s being made out in some quarters. Nevertheless, this has done little to quell rumours of a potential deal getting over the line.

Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Arsenal have also been strongly linked to Osimhen. There has been speculation that Arsenal have already made contact with the forward’s camp and are prepared to trigger his release clause, which stands at around €70m – €75m.

Now, reliable Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has given an update, confirming that Arsenal are indeed eyeing a swoop for Osimhen and have even moved ahead of United in the race to secure his signature.

Sabuncuoğlu explains that the Gunners are emerging as a serious option for Osimhen.

Like United, the North London are in desperate need of a reliable talisman, amidst doubts over the credentials of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

At the moment, Arsenal don’t have a fit senior striker, with both Havertz and Jesus likely to miss the rest of the season.

From United’s perspective, the worrying thing is that Arsenal are in a better financial position to fork out the money for Osimhen and they can also offer him Champions League football – something the player is likely to factor in when making his decision.

So far this season for Galatasaray, Osimhen has plundered an impressive 20 goals and five assists in 27 matches across all competitions.
