Andre Onana makes huge decision on his future as Amorim makes plans to replace him this summer – report

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana reportedly wants to remain at Old Trafford despite suggestions that Ruben Amorim is chasing a new shot-stopper.

United forked out £47.5million in the summer of 2023 to sign Onana from Inter Milan. During his time so far at the club, he has never managed to be fully convincing due to his inconsistent form.

He has made a number of high-profile errors between the sticks, including five this season alone.

The Cameroonian was heavily criticised for his role in both goals his side conceded during last week’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.

In the 65 Premier League appearances he’s made, Onana has conceded 97 times and kept 16 clean sheets.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the 28-year-old’s future at United is hanging in the balance, with Amorim keen on securing the services of a replacement.

Now, the Manchester Evening News claims Onana is “intent on staying” with the Red Devils next season despite his struggling form.

Samuel Luckhurst states that Amorim wants to bring in a new goalkeeper but Onana considers United to be the only club he wishes to play for.

It’s understood that veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is likely to retire at the end of the campaign when his terms expire.

There is also a chance that Altay Bayindir could part ways with United in search of regular first-team minutes elsewhere, ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Another reason United may look to dip into the market for a new goalkeeper is because of the looming predicament of Onana jetting off to the Africa Cup of Nations in December, which would leave the club without cover during the busy festive period.

MEN add, “If the club wished to sell Onana, they would require a fee of £28.32million (the remaining cost of his fee spread over the remaining three years of his contract) to avoid a loss under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.”

United are back in Europa League action on Thursday when they face Real Sociedad in San Sebastián.
