Amorim’s United slip to a new low as they set an unwanted record in the 1-1 draw with Leeds

Manchester United set a new unwanted record as they recovered from going a goal down to secure a point against Leeds United at Elland Road. United draw with Leeds United headed into the fixture with Leeds desperate for a victory, having been held to a frustrating draw by bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers in their previous outing. The Red Devils thought they had gone ahead early on when Matheus Cunha volleyed home. However, the goal was ruled out due to an offside in the build-up. United, despite being very defensive-minded due to the absence of several key players, fashioned multiple chances. The likes of Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu all had opportunities to find the back of the net but they couldn’t quite hit the target. It was Leeds who struck first shortly after the hour mark. Brenden Aaronson capitalised on some pitiful defending from the visitors to send the ball into the bottom corner, well past the reach of Senne Lammens. However, the Yorkshire club’s lead didn’t last too long as Matheus Cunha restored parity less than three minutes later. Cunha was slipped in by Joshua Zirkzee and produced a brilliant finish. The Brazilian’s goal ensured that the spoils were shared between the two sides. Speaking to the media after the game, Ruben Amorim noted that United deserved more from the game. However, United also stooped to a new low as they set an unwanted club record that certainly doesn’t reflect well on Amorim and the current crop of players. United record an unwanted first By conceding to Leeds, United have now conceded in 15 straight away league games. This marks the first such occurrence in the club’s Premier League history. Manchester United have gone 15 consecutive away games without a clean sheet for the first time ever in the Premier League. 😬 pic.twitter.com/aCtbw0axHi — Squawka (@Squawka) January 4, 2026 The last time United shipped goals in as many consecutive games on the road was during the 1985/86 campaign. To find a similar feat, you must look back to Ron Atkinson’s side between September 1985 and April 1986. Fortunately for Amorim’s team, it didn’t matter too much on the day as they still managed to escape Elland Road with a point. United are next in action on Wednesday when they face Burnley at Turf Moor. No doubt the club will not want to stretch this run to 16 consecutive matches.
