Amorim’s instruction to his side

ManUtd.com reporter Adam Marshall at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim has obviously had his say on Manchester United’s home defeat to West Ham United but the boss has also suggested there is one key area that can be quite easily fixed.

Our head coach was upset with a lack of crosses into the Hammers’ box during the 2-0 reverse and, in an interview with beIN Sports afterwards, indicated this was a message he would be passing on.

Despite pushing the visitors back towards the end of the game, we were unable to reduce the arrears with a few chances going begging and Alphonse Areola making one stunning save to thwart Rasmus Hojlund.

Amorim feels there could be a simple way of carving out more opportunities to help us get a positive result at Chelsea on Friday before the huge Europa League final date with Tottenham Hotspur on 21 May.

PRESS CONFERENCE | Ruben talks candidly about what needs to change as he speaks to journalists after Sunday’s defeat…

“I think we suffer two goals we can avoid,” he said. “We have our chances but we lack energy. We lack pace and we suffer a goal in small things. They go there a few times. We spend a lot of time outside the box but we need to cross more often.

“Even from the second ball. So, in that sense, it’s really disappointing.

“We need to think, at the end of the season, about a lot of things. It doesn’t matter if we win the Europa League or not, we need to change a lot. Of course, we need to focus on the final but, again, there are a lot of games more important than the final. Winning or losing – that is what is on my mind every day and every night. We need to change a lot of things in our club.”

West Ham have moved above us in the Premier League table, following Sunday’s result, leaving United in 16th spot.

Tottenham are a place lower, after losing 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace, with both Europa League final clubs in action on Friday night against Champions League-chasing sides. Spurs are away to Aston Villa, before Ruben’s men take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a 20:15 BST kick-off.

The focus will then be completely on the Europa League final at San Mames, with the domestic action concluding on Sunday 25 May, the final day of the league campaign, when we take on Villa at Old Trafford.

The boss will be looking to get a response from his players, as we look to finish a really difficult term on a big high.
