Manchester United showed a lot of promise with their performance against Arsenal in the Premier League season opener.
The Red Devils played an exciting brand of football and were much better than they have been in the last few years.

In all fairness, United should have walked away from the game with at least a point against their name if not three as they were heads and shoulders above Arsenal throughout the 90 minutes. Thus, it is a shame that Amorim’s men weren’t able to get over the line.
This isn’t to say that there wasn’t scope for improvement from a Man Utd perspective. For example, Altay Bayindir didn’t necessarily cover himself in glory in the game against the Gunners, looking very fragile while trying to punch out a corner.
This resulted in the only goal that the Gunners scored on the night.
A goalkeeping reinforcement is of utmost priority for the M16-based club this summer. One among the many players that they have been linked with this summer is PSG shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma who is currently out of the project at PSG.
Despite helping the French side lift the Champions League trophy last season, the club has not been able to agree on a new contract with the Italian international and went ahead and signed Lucas Chevalier to replace him.
It is very clear that Enrique is unlikely to give Donnarumma another game in a PSG shirt and an exit is on the cards.
Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney has tipped his former club to secure the Italian star’s signature this summer as he would add immense quality to the backline. Here is what he said:
“I think with Donnarumma, he’s 26, he’s one of the best keepers in the world. It’d be crazy if Man Utd don’t go in for him.”
Donnarumma is a very high-earner at PSG, getting around £300,000 a week and Man Utd is likely to need to pay huge wages to bring the PSG goalkeeper to Old Trafford this summer and this could prove to be a sticking point in this transfer.
The Old Trafford are yet to move on high-earners like Antony and Jadon Sancho who do not have a future at the English club. If they fail to do that, it might be difficult to sign Donnarumma. From a sporting perspective though, it undoubtedly makes a lot of sense.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Donnarumma and if he finds himself wearing a Man Utd jersey this upcoming season. Let’s wait and see how things play out on this front going forward.
