Last summer, Manchester United were widely expected to sign a dynamic midfielder, but the move never materialised. A failed pursuit of top target Carlos Baleba, after Brighton & Hove Albion insisted he was untouchable, saw United shelve their midfield search. INEOS chose not to pursue a stop-gap solution, instead opting to wait until 2026 to land for Ruben Amorim the elite midfielder he wanted. So far this season, the United head coach has relied on the experience of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro to anchor his midfield. That partnership initially looked shaky, but it has begun to stabilise slowly and surely. Midfield overhaul looming Even so, with Casemiro’s age and contract situation, he is unlikely to be the long-term solution for Amorim. That, coupled with the underlying need for a dynamic midfielder, all but guarantees INEOS will invest in bolstering United’s core with quality signings. While many were expecting the headline midfield arrivals for next summer, a fresh report suggests otherwise. Amorim’s winter demands According to Teamtalk, citing a reputable United source, “Amorim has ‘told’ the United owners that an ‘elite midfielder is a must’ at the club in January.” For The Peoples Person readers, this will not come as a surprise. It was recently revealed that United are keen on signing Elliot Anderson when the transfer window reopens in the winter. Elliot Anderson January links The report claimed that INEOS are confident they can convince Nottingham Forest to part ways with Anderson in January. The 22-year-old has been on a meteoric rise, delivering standout performances for both club and country. He produced a midfield masterclass against United last weekend, as Forest and the Red Devils played out a 2-2 draw. It is no surprise that Anderson’s performance may have sparked Amorim’s renewed push, urging the club to secure the elite midfielder he likely sees in Anderson, if not Adam Wharton or Angelo Stiller.
