Ruben Amorim has provided his take on Manchester United’s 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Reds were undone by two second-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta on another frustrating afternoon, quashing hopes of extending our winning run to four games.

Speaking to the official broadcasters afterwards, the boss was upset with the scoreline but tried to take some positives on a day when Lisandro Martinez was taken off on a stretcher with a serious-looking injury.

RESULT LEAVES A BAD TASTE

“The result is really bad. The performance was a little bit better than the last games. I think we controlled better the game, the momentum, how to attack and when to attack. We controlled quite well the transitions from Crystal Palace but we will know they have some expectations and are expecting to win the ball for transitions. The two goals we can avoid and the injury to Licha was hard on the team. We played better than some games but the result tastes nothing good in this moment.”

WE CAN’T CONCEDE GOALS LIKE THESE

“I think we had some moments, some better moments with the ball. We created some chances but the two goals we suffered, we cannot lose those kind of goals. After suffering the first goal, it was really hard on the team.”

MAINOO UP FRONT

“We can have more possession and claim more time to think about the plays. We need to improve also in the final third but we created chances and missed some goals. That can make a difference in a game. We had some games without a lot of connections. It’s difficult to transport the game into the final third, to stay in the half of the opponents. We did it today because Kobbie gave us connections to bring the ball. It was hard for them to find players to press. I think that idea worked in that moment but, when we don’t win the game, we don’t have any taste of good things.”

OLD TRAFFORD WOES

“Yeah, in this moment, it is hard to play at home but the fans are fantastic and today was a little bit of a different game. It’s quite normal for fans to feel that way [upset at the end]. It’s a really, really hard season for the fans. The only thing I know how to help is to focus on the next games. We know football change in sudden moments. We had momentum before this game and now we go a little bit down again. We’ll do the same thing – prepare for the next game and work on the way to keep working on our idea.”
