Amorim puts a timeframe on his United career, it will make fans sit up and listen

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has delivered a passionate verdict on staying at the club despite the ongoing turbulence.

Amorim has endured a difficult time at United

Amorim has endured a pretty challenging time since leaving Sporting Lisbon and joining United in November last year as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

The Portuguese coach lost 14 of the 27 Premier League games he took charge of as United spent a huge chunk of the season flirting with the relegation zone. He also lost four out of his first seven matches at Old Trafford.

United ended the 2024/25 season in a lowly 15th place – their worst finish in 51 years.

Towards the end of the season, some fans started to doubt if Amorim was the right person to take the club forward. Their concerns grew even stronger after the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the hierarchy kept faith with the Portuguese, even backing him in the transfer market with the additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. More signings are expected to follow.

As the new season draws closer, Amorim has opened up about his tenure and revealed that he hopes to stick around for two decades, just like the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, whose reign spanned an incredibly successful 27 years.

Amorim wants to remain at United for the long term

Amorim told The Telegraph, “I want to stay – I want to stay 20 [years]. That is my goal and I truly believe in that. Something will happen. It always does.”

“In some moments I will be lucky. I had a lot of luck during my career as a manager and my idea is to stay for many years. But again we know that the results will dictate that. I know that last season I used up all the credit I had but I’m ready to start afresh.”

He continued, “At Sporting it was the same thing. They said that in three months I’m out. They said that I had a three per cent chance of winning the title with Sporting.”

“I know that the pressure is different [at United].”

“But I don’t like to change clubs. I like to bond with people and carry on. I know it sounds crazy but I chose this club. I had the feeling and I just want to bond, to be part of it and I will stay here.”

Amorim has two years left on his current terms with United.
