Ruben Amorim says Victor Lindelof’s issue will have to be assessed after he came off injured during Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at Tottenham.
The Sweden international made his ninth appearance of the season as part of the Reds’ three-man backline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, alongside Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez.
However, our no.2’s fifth start of the campaign in all competitions was cut short just before half-time when he was seen sat on the pitch in evident discomfort.
Victor had to be substituted towards the end of the first half.
A clearly disappointed Victor headed straight down the tunnel as he was replaced by Jonny Evans, who scored his first goal since his return to United, but it proved only a consolation as the Reds fell to a 4-3 defeat and exited the competition.
Ruben was asked about Lindelof’s condition in his post-match interview with MUTV in the tunnel in north London.
“I think he has something we have to assess to say specifically what he has but it’s tough to lose a player,” our head coach told Zarah Connolly.
“They work really hard, they want to return but like I said, the same thing with Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Vic, they had injuries, they don’t have space to train.
“Just preparing games is not perfect so we’ll try to do it again altogether to have the full squad because with this schedule we need the full squad.”
The Reds will be back on the training pitch at Carrington on Friday, as attention quickly shifts to Sunday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford (kick-off 14:00 GMT).
