Amorim praised for getting rid of United’s “bad eggs” who are “looking for an excuse” – report

Life as Manchester United head coach has proven to be quite tough for Ruben Amorim who has had to deal with as many issues off the field as on it since his arrival three months ago.

The Portuguese has struggled to get his methods across to his players and has found himself losing a couple of first-team stars along the way.

High-profile forwards Marcus Rashford and Antony have both moved out of the club for the remainder of the campaign at least with Amorim laying down the law in a bid to reset the culture at Old Trafford.

The former Sporting CP coach has come in for criticism for some of his decisions in recent weeks but, as reported by The Mirror, has been praised for his no-nonsense approach by a former United player.

Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, Ben Foster has supported Amorim’s decisions with regards to moving on players who he feels aren’t giving their all for the club, no matter who they are.

“I like the fact that he seems to be a very good judge of character. I think he’s a very good judge of the players that like to do it properly, work hard and put a proper shift in.

“He’s pretty good at that with the way he’s dealt with a lot of players already,” he said.

Foster continued by saying United needed someone of Amorim’s character to rid the squad of the underperforming players who are not committed enough for the cause who have been causing an issue in the dressing room.

“But what it takes is somebody like Amorim to be able to get rid of all of the bad eggs and the dead wood, to get as many of the players on long contracts out as you possibly can and then start a rebuild,” he added.

The former United goalkeeper then claimed that modern players are now too happy to blame managers or coaches for their poor form and are “quick to down tools” which Foster says is “embarrassing”.

“A symptom of modern footballers is that they’re so happy to look for an excuse. As soon as there’s something wrong with the manager or the way the club is run, if they’re not performing well, it’s easy for them to go, ‘no, it’s not me, it’s that,’” he added.

Despite the praise for United’s head coach, Foster does believe he is being “very naive tactically” and should think about changing his system that clearly isn’t suiting his current crop of players.

However, Amorim has been adamant about sticking with the formation and looks set to end the season in the hope the penny will drop in order to figure out who he will keep at the club heading into his first full season in charge.

No doubt United will be busy in the summer market and the majority of the first team players are currently fighting for their futures at Old Trafford.
