Manchester United fought back from a goal down to return from Elland Road with a point from their Premier League encounter against Leeds United on Sunday. Ruben Amorim’s safety-first approach meant the visitors were always playing for a draw. But it was the hosts who struck first, forcing the head coach to alter his plans. Moving to a back-four while playing an extra attacker in Joshua Zirkzee turned the tide in the Red Devils’ favour, who grabbed the equaliser through Matheus Cunha. United could have returned with all three points, but for some wasteful finishing from Benjamin Sesko, who has only two goals from 17 appearances. Benjamin Sesko continues to struggle The Slovenian did fare slightly better when he had Zirkzee alongside him, but on the whole, he struggled to impose himself while regularly fluffing his lines from promising positions. The ex-RB Leipzig ace is only 22, so it was always expected that he would need time to adapt to his new surroundings. But at times, the decision to only recruit him bears an uncanny resemblance to the club’s decision to bring in an inexperienced Rasmus Hojlund as the lone striker. And as per Talksport, Amorim clearly knew this would be the case, which is why he had asked for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins instead. Amorim preferred Ollie Watkins INEOS chose the younger Sesko who was backed by Christopher Vivell to prove his worth, but so far, the experiment has clearly not worked. And with Antoine Semenyo seemingly heading towards Manchester City, and INEOS unlikely to dip into the market, Amorim is livid with Jason Wilcox. “Amorim also feels promises he would be allowed to his squad in this transfer window have been broken, with United now planning a quiet January. “Dating further back to the summer transfer window, talkSPORT understands Amorim would have preferred to have signed Premier League proven Ollie Watkins over Benjamin Sesko, who has so far struggled to adapt to English football.” INEOS pushed for Benjamin Sesko The “unbelievable” Villa striker has seven goals to his name this season, while last term, he conjured 31 goal involvements. But he is 30, which explains INEOS’ reluctance to spend big on him, but Amorim seems to be paying the price for that call.
