Amorim: It’s a shame about the break!

Ruben Amorim said it’s a shame for Manchester United and Rasmus Hojlund that there is now an international break, after our 3-0 success over Leicester City.

Amorim made three changes to the side that beat Real Sociedad in midweek and enjoyed goals from Hojlund – who ended his three-month goalless streak – Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes in the East Midlands.

It was an evening with mixed emotions for our young players too, as Ayden Heaven was withdrawn through injury, but Harry Amass was able to make his debut.

As we head into a period of 15 days without a game for United, Ruben assessed what is to come for his players as he spoke to various media outlets following our success.

Scroll down to read what he said to the BBC, Sky and others…

INITIAL ASSESSMENT“I think it was good. I felt a little bit a lack of energy, but they gave everything. Some players were tired and also with the Ayden [Heaven] problem. I think we deserved the win and we controlled the game. We could be better with the ball but I understand after these two weeks with a lot of games. I think the lads deserved the win. And it was a perfect way to end this week with the win for our away supporters.”

HOJLUND GETS HIS GOAL

“It is a difficult goal, a difficult control [with] the right foot. So it’s a shame we are going to stop for [the] national teams. But he will return with confidence. It’s [also] just one win away and we have to continue when we return.”

GOAL DROUGHTS OVER“The most important thing for me is the work that they are putting in, especially defending. They are improving so much, but they live from assists and scoring goals. Rasmus [Hojlund] today, his goal was really good, really good control, with his right foot and then [Alejandro] Garnacho, he is also always trying to score a goal. He deserved that feeling.”

SPECIAL DAY FOR AMASS

“First of all, it’s his birthday. So he’s [had] a special day. They have to understand that they [Academy players] are so lucky to play for Manchester United and we cannot forget that and for me it’s hard. But at the same moment I have so much fun to put young kids [in] to play and to win matches. That is the best feeling.”

TURNING THE REDS AROUND

“Yeah, I cannot understand [the fans’ chant to the tune of Bonnie Tyler’s It’s a Heartache]. I just want to win games and for them to have these good moments that they deserve. But we are far from what they want for this club. So I don’t care away from that, with that thing. We have a lot of things to do.”

DOES BRUNO DESERVE A REST?“No, I don’t feel that in Bruno [Fernandes]. He’s a special guy in that aspect. He’s always ready. He can recover quite well. I don’t know [about] the future. I am just reading what the performance department tell me [about the numbers] and then what I see in the game. So I always see a Bruno that is dangerous, and one Bruno that can recover in every situation. So he’s going to stay there.”
