Man United head coach Ruben Amorim is “convinced” that Senne Lammens can reach a similar level to his fellow countryman, Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian started his first game for the Red Devils since his £18.2m move from Royal Antwerp last weekend.
Lammens impressed fans and pundits alike with the confidence and composure he displayed during the 2-0 win over Sunderland.
However, The Sun claim that Amorim believes the 23-year-old can reach even greater heights, likening him to a “Courtois 2.0”.
Why are the comparisons to the Real Madrid keeper important?
Courtois has been one of the best keepers in the world for the last 10+ years. He made his breakthrough whilst playing on loan at Atletico Madrid for three years, winning the La Liga title, the Spanish Cup and the Europa League.
He returned to Chelsea to become their undisputed No.1 in 2014, going on to have four successful seasons where he lifted the Premier League title on two occasions, in addition to the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Most of Courtois’s trophies have, though, been won during his lengthy spell as Real Madrid’s first-choice keeper. During his 8 seasons with the Spanish giants, he has secured 12 major honours, including two Champions Leagues.
The Man United keeper has been praised by Courtois himself
It looks like the Real Madrid star has been keeping close tabs on his fellow Belgian. Speaking to Rio Ferdinand shortly after Lammens joined United last month, Courtois reportedly said that the 23-year-old is a “huge talent” who will be “well-suited” to the Premier League.
It’s hard to make any sweeping judgements after just one game, but Lammens has certainly made a promising start and he will want to continue in that vein when club football resumes later this month.
