The Manchester United careers of Christian Eriksen and Antony may be coming to an end as soon as the January transfer window if the latest update on the matter is to be believed.

Looking ahead at the upcoming winter transfer window, Man United have been linked with an array of potential signings.

Among them are left-back Alphonso Davies, who is tipped to replace Luke Shaw as a reliable option in the starting lineup.

United are also looking to bolster their squad in other positions, with striker Jonathan David repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford along with Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

Still, in order to finance such moves, United may need to offload several players who are no longer viewed as being essential to Amorim’s plans.

GIVEMESPORT revealed that Eriksen and Antony may be among the first players on the chopping block.

“Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has pinpointed Christian Eriksen and Antony as high-earners who could be offloaded during the fast-approaching January transfer window in order to boost his budget for Old Trafford reinforcements,” the report read.

“The duo are on contracts which allow them to pocket a combined total of £350,000 per week at Old Trafford, and there is an awareness behind the scenes that offloading them would ease the pressure on the wage bill and free up further cash to bring in potential replacements midway through the campaign,” the article continued.

“GMS sources have been informed that Eriksen – who is at risk of becoming a free agent in the summer – is not part of Amorim’s long-term plans at Manchester United, while Antony has failed to convince bosses that he can turn his fortunes around if he is given the opportunity to remain in his current surroundings.”

Eriksen has been highly effective this season, scoring four goals and supplying three assists in 14 games in all competitions so far. (Transfermarkt)

Still, the ageing star has limited years left in his playing career, meaning that it might be time to consider replacing him with younger alternatives.

Antony, on the other hand, has consistently failed to prove himself, enduring a torrid season to date. He has managed just one goal in seven appearances, which was a spot-kick against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

All things considered, it appears as if Amorim would have a valid reason to offload these two expensive stars, whose combined wages of £350,000 per week would go a long way to funding some much-wanted moves. All that remains is finding some potential suitors who would be willing to add Eriksen and Antony to their ranks.
