Amorim has his say on full-time disagreement

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has no problem with his players disagreeing with each other on the pitch and sees it as “a very good sign” in this moment.

The boss was quizzed on the subject in Thursday’s post-match press conference, after Amad and Rasmus Hojlund were seen having a passionate exchange at the full-time whistle of our 2-1 win away to Viktoria Plzen.

Both had played important roles in the come-from-behind Europa League triumph but appeared to be on a different page during a series of late attacks as we looked to make sure of the points.

It led to some visible frustration between the pair, which Amorim made clear that he welcomes, seeing it as a sign of commitment and care for the team’s overall cause.

“For me, it’s perfect,” he said, when asked by journalists about the brief situation between Amad and Hojlund, in the after-match media briefing at the Doosan Arena.

“We need to feel something. In this moment, we need to feel something. If we need to fight each other, it’s like a family. For me, it’s a very, very good sign. 

“When you don’t care, you do nothing. When you care, you fight with your brother, with your mother, your father [laughs]. So, for me, it’s a very good sign.”

It was Amad’s mazy run that had led to Hojlund’s equaliser, before the latter was on the mark again in the 88th minute, to win the points for United in the Czech Republic.

Both players celebrated the goals together and Amorim later went on to highlight that disagreements are a regular part of football.

“It’s a normal thing,” he added. “I think it’s a positive thing, a healthy thing so I let the players and the captain [Bruno Fernandes] calm down things. If I see that it’s too much, I will go inside the dressing room. 

“But it’s their space, they have to talk, to fight in the game. For me, it’s a very important thing.

“I’m happy that we win the game and still fight each other. When you win and fight with your team-mate because you want to score one more, for me, it’s a very good day for us.”
