Amorim explains Cunha absence

Monday 24 November 2025 19:01Matheus Cunha is not in the matchday squad for Manchester United’s Premier League home match against Everton. The Brazil international represented his country during the recent break but was absent when the Reds arrived for the 20:00 GMT kick-off against the Toffees. His place in the forward line goes to Joshua Zirkzee, who makes his first start of the Premier League campaign.”It was a knock in the training,” revealed the boss in an interview with Sky Sports, prior to the start of the match. “I don’t know how long he is going to stay out. I think it’s nothing serious but we cannot risk players. “We have to show everybody, when you are not 100 per cent, we have a different player to cope with the demands of the game.” On Zirkzee’s selection, and the big chance it presents to the Dutchman, Amorim was excited to see what the striker can bring to the team. “I just want to see Josh playing well, with the quality he has,” added our head coach. “We have a problem with Ben [Sesko] and we have a problem with Cunha. He’s working in that position. “If you look at our team, I think Josh has, more or less, the same characteristics as Cunha in that position. We want to maintain what we worked with during the week and he is ready.”Recommended:Monday 24 November 2025 19:01Back to Top
