Amorim blasts 5/10 Man Utd star following Chelsea win: “We cannot…”

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim wasn’t impressed with one particular player following his side’s chaotic 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

The Red Devils bounced back from their 0-3 defeat to Manchester City last weekend by beating the Blues at Old Trafford, albeit amidst unconventional circumstances.

In the fifth minute of the contest, Bryan Mbeumo was tripped by Robert Sanchez on the edge of the box. The Chelsea goalkeeper was shown a straight red card, and MUFC managed to pounce on their numerical advantage, scoring twice in the first half. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring, while Casemiro doubled the home side’s lead.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian’s enchanting moment was short-lived, as he swiftly turned from hero to zero.

Ruben Amorim slams Casemiro for getting himself foolishly sent off

The 33-year-old got himself sent off on the stroke of half-time after receiving two avoidable bookings. The second one was particularly naive, as he grabbed a hold of Andrey Santos and dragged him to the ground, despite being on a yellow card.

Amorim, who had previously hailed Casemiro as an ‘exemplary’ player, was visibly livid with the former Real Madrid star. So despite escaping with a 2-1 victory, the Portuguese manager expressed his irritation with the veteran midfielder in his post-match interview.

“Really good. Now it’s time to create a bit of momentum. We started the game really well, really aggressive,” he told Sky Sports.

“I cannot remember a very good play from us, but we pushed our opponent in how aggressive we were in the first and second balls. We cannot have someone sent off near half-time in Casemiro, we like to complicate all our games! But it was a good game.”

The Brazil international received the lowest grade (5/10) among Man Utd’s starting players on Saturday in Samuel Luckhurst’s player ratings for the Manchester Evening News.

Ruben Amorim on Man United’s approach against Chelsea

In the lead-up to the match, many claimed that Amorim’s job was on the line. Hence, the Portuguese manager was pleased with his team’s approach from the get-go, although he had hoped to kill off the game when they had the chance.

“I felt the urgency, especially in the beginning of the game. The sending off helped us. If you remember the first half, we had so many opportunities three against one, three against two.

We have to be more clinical to finish the game sooner. With the sending off of Casemiro, you never know what is going to happen so we have to take the chance to kill the game.”
