“Absolutely not!“: Amorim warned against fatal transfer mistake he’s about to make – report

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has cautioned head coach Ruben Amorim against sanctioning Rasmus Hojlund’s exit this summer.

Hojlund on his way out of United

It’s looking increasingly likely that Hojlund’s time at United has come to an end, with a move to AC Milan firmly on the cards.

Hojlund endured an extremely difficult 2024/25 season as United finished a lowly 15th position. He bagged 10 goals across all competitions, but only four came in the Premier League.

However, Hojlund’s modest goal tally only scratches the surface of his struggles. Since arriving at Old Trafford, he has found it difficult to master even the fundamentals of leading the line, such as holding up the ball and linking play. Patience is running out, and the club is now exploring the possibility of offloading him.

Benjamin Sesko’s arrival has only served to further fuel speculation over Hojlund’s future.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have directly informed Hojlund that he is no longer a key part of Amorim’s plans.

More recently, it emerged that the Dane is slowly resigning himself to the fact that he no longer has a future at United.

The Red Devils have been negotiating with AC Milan over a loan deal that includes an option to buy, and the move now seems close to completion, with Hojlund’s approval the main obstacle remaining.

Ex-United striker Dimitar Berbatov urged Amorim to reconsider his stance on Hojlund and now, Silvestre has echoed the Bulgarian’s sentiments.

Silvestre calls on Amorim to block Hojlund’s exit

Silvestre told Hajper [as quoted by Metro], “Marcus Rashford has gone and there are not a lot of strikers around, Joshua Zirkzee is a different type of striker that doesn’t make those runs in behind the defence.”

“He is another type of player for certain games, certain opposition. But no, you need competition, need quality, so I wouldn’t rush into sending Rasmus Hojlund out on loan if Sesko signs. Absolutely not.”

Silvestre said about Sesko, “Benjamin Sesko is an upcoming talent and he’s got certain qualities that could fit into Ruben Amorim’s style of play.”

“He’s got presence, height, he’s good with his back against the defenders.”

“He’s got the athleticism to respond to the physicality of the Premier League. He’s ticking a lot of boxes for sure.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they take on Arsenal in their 2025/26 Premier League opener.
