‘A decent chance’: Amorim implores INEOS to approach £17.3m midfielder with 177 PL appearances for January transfer

Already considering how he can have his options bolstered mid-season, Ruben Amorim has one former Premier League talisman on his shortlist.

That is, of course, if the Manchester United boss makes it until January in the dugout at Old Trafford.

Reports have suggested that while he currently retains the backing of INEOS, Amorim’s job security will be assessed if the defeats continue to pile up.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is of the belief that the current crop of players at Amorim’s disposal have enough quality to secure Champions League qualification this season, so the further United slip away from the top end of the table, the higher the chance there is that the head coach is relieved of his duties.

In line with that, the fact that INEOS shelled out £216 million to reinforce the squad – granting Amorim an entirely new frontline – means further additions in the winter period won’t be at the forefront of Ratcliffe’s plans.

Amorim wants to bring Ruben Neves back to the PL

In the event Amorim’s wishes are granted, he is said to be a ‘big fan’ of ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Ruben Neves, as per CaughtOffside (via the Daily Briefing).

There is a ‘decent chance’ Neves returns to the English top flight two-and-a-half years on from his £47m switch to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal.

Al-Hilal are expected to demand around £17.3m if they are to sanction the 28-year-old’s exit midway through the campaign.

Neves, who accumulated 177 Premier League appearances during his time at Molineux, has continued being a mainstay in the Portugal setup despite plying his trade outside of Europe.
