Manchester United Women are in midweek action on Wednesday evening as we host Newcastle United in the Women’s League Cup.

The Reds were in fine form last time out in the WSL, comfortably dispatching Liverpool 4-0 at Leigh Sports Village thanks to goals from Elisabeth Terland, Leah Galton, Dominique Janssen and Melvine Malard.

But it is the Magpies who are next to arrive on home soil and the onus is on securing our passage to the quarter-finals of the competition – a point will be enough to do that, with Liverpool three points behind us ahead of their fixture with Everton.

Read on to find out how you can stay tuned across the evening…

HOW TO WATCH AND FOLLOWOur clash with Newcastle will be shown live on MUTV on Wednesday, with coverage set to begin at 18:55 GMT.

Kick-off follows just five minutes later at 19:00 GMT and Ben Ibson will be reporting on all the action.

You can also expect to hear the expert views of Liam Bradford and Siobhan Chamberlain, as they talk you through proceedings on live commentary.

WHAT’S THE UNITED TEAM NEWS?

Marc Skinner confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday that the Reds will be without Ella Toone, Lisa Naalsund and Aoife Mainnon for Newcastle’s visit.

Toone is not likely to feature again and the boss provided an update on the trio when addressing the media earlier today.

“Ella Toone is going to be out for these two games, but she’s recovering well, hopefully then coming back, but just after the break,” Marc began.

“Same with Lisa [Naalsund]. She’s going to miss these two games. Aoife will miss the Newcastle game but could be in contention for the Crystal Palace game [on Sunday].”

HOW ARE NEWCASTLE FARING THIS SEASON?

Becky Langley’s side are currently seventh in the WSL Championship – the second tier of English women’s football – having mustered 15 points from their opening nine games.

The Magpies are only four points behind league leaders Birmingham City, however, with hopes that yet another promotion can be achieved this season.

Striker Shania Hayles is one to watch having already netted six goals in all competitions so far. The striker arrived from Bristol City in July and is a Jamaica international.

Elsewhere, Euro 2022 winner Demi Stokes boasts a plethora of experience in defence.
