Four Manchester United Women players are celebrating, after their countries secured victory in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 play-offs on Tuesday evening.
Wales made history by reaching a major tournament finals for the first time in their history, with a 2-1 win in Dublin enough to overcome the Republic of Ireland 3-2 on aggregate.
Hayley Ladd completed the full 90 minutes as a centre-back, while Mared Griffiths and Safia Middleton-Patel were unused substitutes for Rhian Wilkinson’s side, who survived late pressure and held on to their lead established through goals from Hannah Cain and Carrie Jones, the former Red.
Meanwhile, Celin Bizet helped Norway complete a 7-0 thrashing of Northern Ireland as they qualified for another European finals.
The United winger was introduced as a 64th-minute substitute and provided an assist for Synne Jensen late on in Oslo.
It wasn’t to be for Emma Watson and Scotland, however.
They had it all to play for in Helsinki, following a goalless draw with Finland at Easter Road last week, but fell behind to Natalia Kuikka’s early long ranger.

A host of international friendlies were played on Tuesday night and Grace Clinton was the matchwinner in England’s 1-0 victory over Switzerland at Bramall Lane.
Clinton now has three goals in five caps and this strike came from a rebound, after Millie Turner‘s header had hit the post in the eighth minute.

Maya Le Tissier, returning from concussion, and Gabby George also started for the Lionesses in their final game before the Euro 2025 group-stage draw on 16 December.
Dominique Janssen completed the full 90 minutes for Netherlands, as they went ahead against the United States but were eventually pegged back, losing 2-1 to Emma Hayes’ side.
Melvine Malard was a second-half substitute for France in their 4-2 defeat by world champions Spain, while Jayde Riviere came on at half-time but was later taken off with a knock during Canada’s 5-1 victory over South Korea,
Well done to all our international Reds, who will now return to Manchester to prepare for this weekend’s WSL meeting with Liverpool.
