United fan favourite sold by Ten Hag achieves feat he failed to complete in his last three years at Old Trafford

Manchester United finally parted ways with Anthony Martial this summer with the Frenchman released from the club at the end of his contract.

The injury-prone forward’s time at Old Trafford was blighted by spells on the sideline which eventually led to United giving up on the talented but unreliable striker.

Martial has since signed for Greek side AEK Athens and has managed to already achieve a feat for his new side that he couldn’t during his last three years in Manchester.

As reported by SportBible, Martial has completed back-to-back 90 minutes for Athens as attempts to rebuild his club career.

The 28-year-old has played the full match against both Atromitos and Asteras Aktor on November 3 and November 9, respectively.

Both games ended in wins for Athens who currently sit top of the Super League with 21 points from their first 11 games.

Martial’s move to Greece was confirmed in September with the Greeks taking a £2.5 million-a-season gamble on the once-highly-rated star.

Since his arrival in Athens, Martial has scored once and registered one assist in five appearances across all competitions.

It was back in 2015 that United forked out north of £35 million to secure the services of Martial, who was tipped for a huge future after winning the highly-coveted Golden Boy award.

However, despite an unforgettable debut goal that secured a win against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, things never quite worked out as planned for the player.

In truth, the fact that Martial’s debut strike is still largely remembered as his best moment in a United shirt arguably is the biggest indicator of how his time in Manchester played out.

Overall, the Frenchman made 317 appearances for United across all competitions, scoring 90 goals but failed to lift a Premier League title.

Martial will now be hoping to build on his decent start in Greece and salvage something from a career that promised a lot but to this point, has delivered very little.

Conner Botterill has been with The Peoples Person for two years. A keen match-going red with degrees in Sport and Journalism and Philosophy and Psychology, Conner still believes he has a chance of making United’s first team through his 5-a-side career.
