Manchester United face Brighton in the League Cup this evening and head coach Michael Carrick has made several changes to the starting XI that lost to 10-man Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Here is the confirmed team and bench.

Defence

Karl Darlow makes his United debut in goal as Senne Lammens is rested.

The back four comprises Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Nous Mazraoui.

Luke Shaw is still not involved at all, placing another question mark over his fitness. Lisandro Martinez is also missing from the squad. Matthijs de Ligt is still unavailable, but Harry Maguire is on the bench.

Midfield and attack

Andrey Santos also starts his first competitive game for United and is joined by Youri Tielemans in central midfield.

Shea Lacey comes in on the right wing, with Mason Mount in the number 10 role and Marcus Rashford on the left. Benjamin Sesko is up front in a radically changed line-up.

Substitutes

On the bench are Senne Lammens, Harry Amass, Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Tyler Fletcher, Kobbie Mainoo, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Josh Zirkzee.

Zirkzee’s inability to get a start in a squad as heavily rotated as this will surely be a kick in the teeth for the Dutchman.

Amad and Manuel Ugarte are still out injured while Carlos Baleba is back in training but still not ready to make his United debut.

Final Thoughts

  • Debut for Karl Darlow and full debut for Andrey Santos
  • Dorgu completely omitted while Shaw still absent
  • Bruno Fernandes rested in a heavily-rotated line-up.
