Shock exit on the cards for United wonderkid desperate for first team chance, he was a stand-out vs Wrexham – report

With several senior stars on extended break following their World Cup exertions, there are multiple spots up for grabs for Carrington’s finest. One of these positions is at left-back, where the Red Devils have Luke Shaw as their only specialist. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can play in that position, but both are far more adept on the opposite flank. With the Moroccan linked with a shock exit, Michael Carrick can ill afford to ignore this position, especially as United are about to play Champions League football after a two-year hiatus. Surprisingly, Shaw started every Premier League game last season, but it would be a mistake for INEOS to trust him to stay injury-free in a season where the 20-time English league champions will play over 50 games. United need backup for Luke Shaw Signing a left-back has not proven to be easy, with Lewis Hall among the top targets. Newcastle are unlikely to make things easy for United, while the Englishman’s asking price is another major hurdle, especially until the midfield recruitment is completed. INEOS could possibly save a lot of money if Harry Amass can step up to the plate in pre-season. The 19-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell in the first half of last season with Sheffield Wednesday, but saw that momentum fizzle out during his temporary stay with Norwich City from January onwards due to injury. The England Under-19 international has bulked up in anticipation of a huge summer for him, and did impress against Wrexham last Saturday. Harry Amass desperate to impress He is likely to earn minutes against Rosenborg as well, but with his contract up in 2027, a serious call needs to be taken on his future. According to The Daily Mail, there is plenty of Championship interest in the London-born ace, but a final decision rests with Carrick. Should the head coach feel Patrick Dorgu can act as Shaw’s backup, a late move away from the club will be sanctioned. The Dane has excelled further forward, but he was brought in as a wing-back. “Left back Harry Amass is determined to leave a lasting impression during pre-season and was among the stand-outs for United in Helsinki. Carrick’s call will decide the future of Harry Amass “But there is significant Championship interest in him and the feeling is that a late move will be sanctioned, particularly if Patrick Dorgu’s role is re-allocated from wing-back to full-back.” Whether it will be a loan after agreeing a new deal or a permanent exit is not made clear. Given his immense potential, United fans will be hoping the club can agree a new contract before sanctioning a loan.
