“One of Europe’s best”: United must act fast to secure dream signing with Bayern set to pounce – report

Manchester United’s profligacy in front of goal played a major role in Erik ten Hag losing his job in the Old Trafford dug-out.

Despite scoring on his debut, summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has failed to build on his promising start leaving Rasmus Hojlund as United’s only real goal threat in the centre-forward position.

Incoming manager Ruben Amorim will be charged with improving United’s goal scoring numbers but it’s highly likely he will need to add to the current crop to solve the issue.

Rumours are rife that goal-scoring machine Viktor Gyökeres will be following his manager to Manchester but the Swede is quickly becoming a wanted man around Europe.

As reported by by football journalist Christian Falk, German giants Bayern Munich have earmarked Gyökeres as a potential long term solution to Harry Kane who turns 32 before the start of next season.

FC Bayern has the following strikers on the list, as Harry Kane (31) is the only in their squad:
❇️ Omar Marmoush (25/Eintracht Frankfurt). competitor: FC Liverpool
❇️ Viktor Gyökeres (26/Sporting Lissabon). competitor: Manchester United
❇️ Benjamin Sesko (21/RB Leipzig):…

Falk says United are Bayern’s main threat to the signing of Gyökeres who continued his electric form last night, banging in a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The journalist also notes Slovenian star Benjamin Šeško as an alternative for Bayern who are keen to add to their attacking numbers in the coming windows.

Šeško is another United name linked with the Old Trafford club who hold a long-term in interest in the Leipzig target man.

The 21-year-old has also started the season well in Germany with a return of one in two helping to catapult Leipzig onto the coat tails of Bayern at the top of the table.

Šeško teammate Loïs Openda and Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush complete the Bayern shortlist but INOES will be keeping tabs on their movements on Gyökeres in particular.

It’s unlikely the new board will want to do business in January but given Bayern’s lure, it may be a case INEOS need to act fast to secure their number one target for the new coach.

United will hope Amorim’s relationship with Gyökeres will help seal the deal should they decide he is their man and conversations are no doubt taking place on what the it will take to bring the marksman to Old Trafford.

No official move has been made by Bayern or United for any of the strikers on the list but if Amorim fails to get a tune out of United’s current options, the likelihood of INEOS making a call to Sporting will only increase.
