Manchester United have reportedly reached a major transfer decision after striking a deal with Chelsea for midfielder Andrey Santos. Santos agreement On Wednesday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were edging closer to agreeing a deal for Santos. United turned their attention to Santos after missing out on top targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, who have sealed moves to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. David Ornstein of The Athletic then revealed that United have an agreement in place with the Blues for the 22-year-old. It’s understood that United will pay an initial £48m for Santos, with an additional £2m in what are described as “achievable” add-ons. Chelsea have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause. Santos is set to have his medical imminently ahead of an official announcement. The Brazilian is poised to become the second midfield signing after Ederson. United and Atalanta shook hands over a deal for Ederson last month. His medical is also still pending. According to The Guardian, United are not done yet and are expected to pursue a third midfield signing, with two options in particular of interest to them. Transfer call The news outlet claims, “United may target a third midfielder, with Carrick intent on adding a player of a more established pedigree.” “He retains an interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Each would cost a minimum £80m.” Bournemouth have made it clear that Scott is not for sale this summer. The Englishman has been offered multiple contract extensions but he has turned them all down, presumably to keep his options open. Meanwhile, United have long been linked with Wharton. The Europa Conference League winner, has been described as a “generational talent.” A calm and composed midfielder who boasts remarkable poise and technical ability on the ball, he has also been mentioned as a target for Liverpool. It will be fascinating to see which direction United ultimately take and how events unfold over the coming weeks.
