Former Manchester United academy graduate Danny Simpson has made an unexpected decision on his career, which has stunned supporters. United stint Simpson rose through the youth system at United, having been recruited at roughly 11 or 12 years old, and eventually earned his place in the reserve squads. Simpson’s first-team breakthrough came in September 2007, when he started United’s League Cup third-round encounter with Coventry City. Jonny Evans partnered him, with the Northern Irishman also celebrating his own senior debut. His Premier League bow arrived a month later against Wigan Athletic. Simpson came on as a 30th-minute substitute for the injured John O’Shea and assisted Wayne Rooney’s goal with a well-delivered cross. The defender was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s all-conquering double-winning 2007/08 squad. While at United, Simpson also went out on loan to clubs including Royal Antwerp, Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Newcastle. He found playing time at Old Trafford extremely hard to come by due to competition from players like Gary Neville and Wes Brown. Simpson’s United exit came in 2010 when he joined Newcastle permanently. His career highlight arrived six years later with Leicester’s fairytale title win. He later turned out for Huddersfield, Bristol City and Macclesfield before hanging up his boots in 2024. However, he has now announced that he has returned to football, making the move to Dubai. He will feature alongside another former United prodigy, Ravel Morrison. Significant career decision In addition to playing with Morrison, Simpson will work under former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. Ex-Crystal Palace ace Jason Puncheon is also the co-owner of Arabian Falcons and the head of football operations. On why he opted to move to Dubai, Simpson said, “The opportunity to join Jonjo and this exciting project was one I couldn’t turn down.” “I still have plenty to offer on the pitch, and I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve its ambitions. The club has a clear plan, and I want to play my part in delivering a successful promotion-winning campaign.” Shelvey remarked, “I’m really pleased to welcome Danny Simpson to Arabian Falcons. After stepping in for the last five games last season and coming so close to promotion, we now have the opportunity to build properly in my first full campaign.” “Danny is the ideal signing – a Premier League champion with vast experience, leadership, and a winning mentality.” “He strengthens us immediately on the pitch and will be invaluable in helping develop the squad. This is the start of us building a team I firmly believe can win promotion this season.” The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
