United now eyeing move to sign Fulham midfield monster “with a great eye for a pass” – The Athletic

Manchester United are focusing their efforts on alternatives such as Mateus Fernandes after deciding against making a move for Elliot Anderson, with Nottingham Forest asking beyond a British record transfer fee. According to David Ornstein, talks through Fernandes’ agent Jorge Mendes are advancing, with personal terms not anticipated to prove an issue. However, it is understood the Old Trafford hierarchy are not prepared to meet West Ham United’s demands of £80m. Their list of alternative targets does not end with Fernandes. Manchester United eyeing Sander Berge According to The Athletic, Fulham midfielder Sander Berge is another player that Manchester United are now running the rule over as an option. It is believed United considered signing Berge in 2024 when he left Burnley for Fulham.  The 6’5″ midfielder has proven to be a success at Craven Cottage, continuing to impress with his aerial dominance, ball-winning ability, and ball-carrying skills. “He’s an intelligent footballer, with a great eye for a pass and the ability to run with the ball,” Vincent Kompany said after signing Berge for Burnley from Sheffield United. It is claimed Fulham would want to make a profit on the £25m they paid two years ago. The 28-year-old is part of Norway’s World Cup squad. A strong campaign in North America may further inflate his reputation and valuation. Manchester United explore deal for Alex Scott The same report adds that United have also explored the parameters of a deal for in-demand Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. There is a belief the technically gifted Englishman could be available for £60m this summer despite the Cherries insisting he is not for sale. Bournemouth are attempting to renew his contract, which is currently set to expire in 2028. Any new deal could allegedly include a release clause of around £75m. Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton also remain on United’s list of midfield targets.
