United face major roadblock in signing Amorim’s key man who is “permanently on fire” – report

Manchester United face a huge obstacle in the race for Viktor Gyokeres as he is reportedly not interested in making a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils secured the signing of new manager Ruben Amorim last week and he will start work at his new club next week during the international break.

The fresh-faced 39 year old will have many challenges lined up when he sets up in his new office at Carrington but one of the most pressing will surely be addressing the lack of goals.

With youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund being asked to lead the line and goalscoring threat most of the time, their inexperience has shone through and United have failed to convert numerous top chances.

Therefore, the press have already speculated that the club will make a move for Amorim’s star striker at Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres.

There could be a rather large hitch to the plan however according to Portuguese paper Record (via Sport Witness).

United have generally been out of the race for the star striker according to the outlet but due to the Amorim factor, “it is likely that they will position themselves for an attack, not in January, as Rúben himself anticipated (even given the cost of the operation), but thinking about the end of the season. Therefore, it is practically guaranteed that there will be an approach.”

However, the Swedish striker, who has already plundered an impressive 20 goals this season, is said to have other ideas: “Record knows that Gyökeres has other preferences for pursuing his career, as the United project is viewed with suspicion.”

The club is seen as “disorganised, unstable and permanently on fire” and it is stated that only the arrival of Amorim is seen as an attractive quality for the Swede.

In addition, the interest of other clubs such as FC Barcelona could only further complicate a deal for Gyokeres.

While it is hard to argue against the idea that United are in a mess at the moment, the allure of playing for the man who played a major role in turning him into the feared striker he is today cannot be underestimated.

What’s more, as a Scandinavian, it is unlikely that Gyokeres would have such a low opinion of playing in the Premier League for the biggest and most famous side in it.

It is also hard to imagine that he would not like to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in donning the famous Red Devil badge.
