A striker signing is widely expected at Manchester United this summer. There is some expectation that Joshua Zirkzee will leave. The Dutchman, for all his technical brilliance, has unfortunately failed to establish himself at United, unable to push Benjamin Sesko as he ought to. The Red Devils are keen on signing another striker who can offer massive competition to the Slovenian hitman. Santiago Castro Recently, a report relayed by The Peoples Person claimed that this striker could be Bologna’s Santiago Castro. It was revealed that the Argentinian had caught Ineos’ attention, so much so that when his side was facing Aston Villa in a Europa League quarter-final clash at Villa Park, United scouts were there to watch him. Bologna ended up being battered 4-0, and unfortunately, Castro could not help them. However, one game would not seal his fate, not for a striker likened to Premier League goalscoring monster Sergio Kun Aguero. Bologna have done it again with Santiago Castro. Absolute steal last summer and you know he’ll go for a nice profit soon. Reminds me of the Aguero/Tevez/Lautaro types of Argentinian 9’s. Small, powerful, physical, ball-striker, aerially strong, also has a good weight of pass. https://t.co/BOGrgWp1Gz pic.twitter.com/05bxHmORv8 — Ben Mattinson (@Ben_Mattinson_) December 7, 2024 Everton also in the mix That said, while the Red Devils continue to deliberate on whether to return to Bologna for Zirkzee’s replacement, they have been “told” they may need to make up their minds quickly. Everton, as per Everton.news, have also been tracking Castro, and it appears Manchester United are only now discovering the Merseyside side’s long-term striker target, as they report: “Toffees are being linked to Santiago Castro, who has enjoyed a productive season for Bologna. “Now, it seems Manchester United have joined the race.” Everton vs Man United While it is too early to establish who has the edge, a huge battle is clearly set to erupt for the South American star, who has registered 11 goals and four assists so far this season. The Manchester Reds may already have a deadly hitman in Sesko, but they know they desperately need another out-and-out striker to get the best out of the Slovenian. And with a desire to fight on multiple fronts next season, Sesko cannot do it alone; he needs someone who can replace him and do the job. That could be Castro, but only if Ineos can beat Everton to his signature.
