Saturday 18 April 2026 19:10Michael Carrick hopes the injury that caused Leny Yoro to miss Saturday’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is only small. The Frenchman made his 50th league appearance for the Reds during Monday’s defeat to Leeds, and has started each of our last six fixtures. But after suffering a knock in training earlier this week, he has not made the trip to the capital, as we seek to extend our advantage over Liam Rosenior’s men to 10 points. With Matthijs de Ligt injured, and suspensions ruling Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez out, Ayden Heaven has been brought into a backline that also features Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw.Maguire will be able to return for the clash with Brentford at Old Trafford in nine days’ time, and Carrick suggested it’s only a minor problem for Leny. “Hopefully it’s only [a] small [issue] but he’s obviously not ready for tonight,” Carrick said. “It’s part of football, you know? We’ve got a pretty good squad, in terms of injuries really. There’s Leny, there’s Matthijs, who’s out for a bit longer, and there’s Patrick [Chinazaekpere Dorgu].“It’s the two suspensions so all of a sudden there’s less options at centre-back. We can adapt and we can make the most of it. “It’s an important game tonight, so we’ll get ready for that.”Recommended:Saturday 18 April 2026 19:10Back to Top
