Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes “will recommend” that the Red Devils sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes as “his successor”, according to reports. English tabloid The Sun claim that United’s talisman has backed a move for his fellow countryman, who is on the club’s shortlist of midfield targets. Mateys Fernandes has previously described Bruno as a role model, and there is clearly a mutual admiration between the pair. It is not clear how high up the list of targets the 21-year-old currently is, but The Sun report that United are prepared to pay £80m to sign at least one midfielder over the coming months. Who are the other players that Man Utd could sign? Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson are among the favourites to be targeted during the summer transfer window. The likes of Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba are players that the recruitment team also appreciate, but an approach for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes has been played down. A lot still hinges on Michael Carrick’s side qualifying for the Champions League to increase the transfer budget, but with the Red Devils seven points ahead of Chelsea in 6th, they are in pole position to secure a top 5 spot. However, Fernandes made it clear earlier this campaign that he will consider his future this summer, with a decision set to be made after the World Cup. Considering his outstanding form, fans will be hoping that he opts to stay in Manchester for several more years. Want more news on Man Utd?
