‘He’d be the one…’: Ex-Red urges Man Utd to sign ‘powerful’ star to rival summer signing next season

ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAYHow Benjamin Sesko is faring at UnitedIndeed, the Slovenian formed one-third of a complete attacking revamp for United before 2025/2026 got underway, joining Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as new options in then-manager Ruben Amorim’s ranks. The two ex-Premier League stars have since enjoyed prominent starting roles in their maiden campaigns, while Sesko is still having to mostly make his impact off the bench. He is, however, overseeing his most prolific form in a red shirt as of late, having returned a tremendous seven goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances – four of which came as a substitute.Since Michael Carrick took the reins, Sesko has started only twice, but has returned five goals in just 292 minutes of action.Weighing in on the 22-year-old’s situation, Butt told Paddy Power (as cited by the Metro): “I don’t think he can carry the club up front on his own. “They’ll need another No.9. He’s shown he’s got massive potential, great movement, and he works his socks off. He can score a goal, and you can see he’s good in the air, but he’s not the complete centre-forward for United at that level. He can potentially get there.“When you go into the Champions League, it’s just a different kettle of fish. The tempo is totally different – the pressure on it is totally different. You’ve then got to come back and perform in the league maybe two days later.“They’re going to have to go out and buy a top, top player. I do believe in recruitment – there’s no point in going and buying a player who doesn’t improve the squad. You’ve got to go and buy the best player.“I think Sesko will be a good player for United; I don’t think he needs replacing, but someone who is better than him that can lift his game as well.”Butt urges United to sign Victor OsimhenButt went on to reveal that his preferred candidate to join United in the window would be Victor Osimhen. The experienced frontman signed for Galatasaray last July in a £65 million switch from Napoli, marking a Turkish transfer record. He had spent one season on loan with the Super Lig giants, and all parties were keen to continue beyond his initial agreement, prompting Osimhen to put pen to paper on a four-year deal. You’d like to think that players from Turkish sides are gettable,” said the ex-Red.“The recruitment team will not only look at the best players, but they’re looking at the ones that are gettable. You’re wasting time on certain players that you’re not going to get if they cost £120million.“I think he’s powerful, quick, he can run in behind, he’s strong, has got a good touch, can score different types of goals, [and] he’s good in the air. It’s a difficult job to recruit players, and maybe you go and find someone with potential, but they keep doing that, and it doesn’t quite work.”
