Journalist (Who Broke Isak Story) Confirms Man Utd Are Set To Make “Formal Approach” For Newcastle Star

BACK David Tully Mar 27th 2026 Man Utd will make a “formal approach” for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope. The journalist broke the news that Alexander Isak wanted to leave the Magpies last year, and he claims that United are now favourites to buy Tonali this summer. While other teams, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus, have been credited with an interest in Tonali, the Red Devils are the side making all the running. Newcastle won’t sell the Italian international on the cheap, but they are realistic about their chances of keeping the player if they don’t qualify for the Champions League. Eddie Howe’s men are seven points adrift of the top 5 with seven matches remaining, while they are 13 points behind Michael Carrick’s men in 3rd place. How much would Man Utd need to pay? A fee in excess of £100m will likely be needed in order to secure the services of Tonali. It would have to exceed the club record transfer. That currently stands at £89.3m, which was paid for Paul Pogba all the way back in 2016. It’s a record that has now stood for almost a decacde, but an official bid for Tonali could exceed that figure if one is lodged within the next two months. Fernandes is backing a move for Tonali Hope also reports that Bruno Fernandes is among those pushing the Red Devils to make an offer for the 25-year-old. The Man Utd captain is said to be a massive fan of Tonali’s, and he is clearly excited by the prospect of partnering him in midfield next season. This a story that fans should keep a very close eye on over the coming weeks. Want more news on Man Utd?
