It is no secret that Casemiro will be leaving Manchester United in the summer, but it would certainly be news if he does not. Casemiro stays or leaves? It cannot be overstated just how brilliant the Brazilian midfielder has been. Casemiro has been immense. United have been inconsistent, yet the Samba superstar, much like Bruno Fernandes, has proven remarkably consistent, delivering week in, week out. By bringing order to the engine room, Casemiro has been so influential that, on many occasions when he has been substituted, the team has struggled, losing control and dropping points. As influential as the veteran has been, the Red Devils’ midfield search has shifted from simply finding quality central midfielders to specifically identifying one who can offer what he provides. Regardless, whilst the debate about who can perfectly replace Casemiro has played out, another interesting campaign has emerged. Old Trafford faithful and players alike have been advocating for the 33-year-old to stay, even if only for one more year. And whilst many hoped it was something INEOS and Casemiro would reconsider, an interesting report from Brazil has now emerged. New Casemiro deal mooted According to Rtiesporte, the ex-Real Madrid man could, after all, remain at the club, but only if he agrees to one obvious condition. The report, whilst confirming Casemiro has snubbed a move back to Brazil to join Sao Paulo, reveals: “The midfielder receives an offer from the São Paulo club, but his good form in England reopens negotiations for him to stay.” They further explain: “The Brazilian player is once again being treated as a useful part of the squad, which has opened up opportunities for talks about a possible contract renewal.” However, to strike a deal, it is stressed: “To move forward with a new agreement, Manchester United is demanding a significant reduction in wages as part of a financial adjustment process.” It will be interesting to see how this story develops. Perfect transition Casemiro staying, given the brilliant season he has put together, is quite understandable. The hope, naturally, is that he can maintain his momentum and carry it into next season. With the Red Devils likely to be back in Champions League football, Casemiro’s experience could prove invaluable. Furthermore, his continued availability could help the 20-time English champions manage a smooth transition in midfield, gradually phasing him out while his heir is slowly introduced. So, if a compromise deal were to be agreed, Manchester United could get one more year from Casemiro and avoid having to abruptly fill his void the moment he leaves.
