BACK David Tully Mar 19th 2026 Man Utd have registered their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the Red Devils have the Italian international on their shortlist, along with Manchester City and Arsenal: “Two clubs from the Premier League have called for Sandro Tonali to be informed of the situation. Manchester City and Manchester United are both following the situation. So there is a lot of interest from Arsenal, from Man City and from Man United…” “We know how complicated it is to negotiate with Newcastle. It is still [in the] early stages with conversations with Man United, with Manchester City… Man United have several names on their shortlist for the midfielder. It’s not only one or two because this will depend on the budget.” “This will depend on who’s going to be the manager. This will depend on which kind of player Man United will want to sign. Could be one, could be two. So, there are several factors that are going to impact who is going to be the midfielder for Man United. It is not only one name at the moment, the list is including several names before they meet internally, and they say, ‘okay, let’s go for this one’.” The budget will be crucial in deciding whether to bid for Tonali As Romano points out, the Red Devils have yet to make the 25-year-old one of their top transfer targets for the summer transfer window, and the main reason is his asking price. Newcastle are expected to demand in excess of £100m for Tonali, which means United might only make a move for him if they secure Champions League football. Man Utd have several midfield targets It appears as if Director of Football Jason Wilcox has yet to settle on which midfielders(s) the club will pursue. Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume is a name which has seemingly been added to the shortlist, with Tonali, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton also under consideration.
