21yo explosive ace set to play in a brand-new position as United change their summer plans – report

INEOS have a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window, especially if Manchester United secure Champions League qualification. As things stand, they have their fate in their own hands following Sunday’s win over Aston Villa. Fans will expect the team to challenge on all four fronts next season. With Ruben Amorim’s ill-fated 3-4-3 system firmly in the rearview mirror, the Red Devils are expected to adopt a similar tactical approach as under Michael Carrick currently. This means a left winger will become a top priority in the market, after the former head coach ended up selling all of them last summer. United plan to address the lack of a left-winger Matheus Cunha is having to play out of position for the team at this moment, while initially, Patrick Dorgu was filling in on the left. The 20-time English league champions had lined up the likes of Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Iliman Ndiaye of Everton as possible targets. All of them will cost a bomb, and given the need to recruit more than one midfielder, the Old Trafford side could potentially opt for a more conservative approach with regard to the left wing position. According to The Sun, Patrick Dorgu could be converted into a specialist left winger, thereby erasing the need to spend big in that position. Patrick Dorgu could be the perfect solution The Dane, who has played as a winger during his time at Lecce, could prove to be an astute purchase, especially if the former wingback can successfully transition into his new role in the future. Under Carrick, the Denmark international bagged two goals in as many games before his unfortunate injury. He looked far more comfortable in an attacking role compared to how he was asked to play under Amorim. United will sign a left-back to provide competition to Luke Shaw should Dorgu be exclusively utilised as a left winger. “Now that United play with a back four and wingers, they are devoid of a natural left-sided option. INEOS have huge call to take “Patrick Dorgu was thriving in a more advanced role before he succumbed to injury at Arsenal on January 25 and Matheus Cunha has started the past seven games on the left. “Dorgu is a left back by trade but if United rebrand him as a winger then they could instead invest in a new specialist left back. “Luke Shaw is out of contract next year and there are doubts whether he would be able to contend with a more taxing schedule next season, with United likely to be back in Europe.” Feature image Justin Setterfield via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
