Manchester United have numerous players out on loan this season, but few have enjoyed as much success as Ethan Ennis has during his time at Fleetwood Town. Ennis joined the Cod Army on loan in the summer and has been a regular, featuring in 36 matches. He has also scored six goals and provided four assists in all competitions this season. Positive loan so far The young winger sat down with The Manchester Evening News and discussed in depth how his loan move has unfolded so far this season. He explained that he has really enjoyed the loan spell so far and was very proud when he won the club’s Player of the Month award in January. He elaborated, “I think that’s definitely something I wanted to focus on this season, being consistent and showing them good performances every week, so I was proud when that came up.” First team regular Ennis was asked how he managed to secure a spot in the first eleven so quickly, and he humbly responded, “there’s always an element of luck. He expanded, “I got my opportunity to stay in the team a bit longer, maybe through injuries and circumstance, which I think happens to anyone in football, really, across any level and any story.” Ennis explained further, “I think once I was in the team, I did well and stayed in. I think I’ve just grown in confidence as the season’s gone on, really, and sort of shown my strengths week in, week out, and obviously playing a bit of a different role, but I’m enjoying it. It’s worked out really well.” Positional flexibility Despite being an attacking winger by trade, Ennis feels he has learned tactical flexibility while being on loan in League Two. He explained, “I think I’ve improved across all bases. I’ve improved a lot defensively, one-on-one and positioning in general. And then, yeah, I just think playing to my strengths and affecting the game as much as possible.” The winger further explained, “I want to put myself in good stead, being able to play any of these positions, like on the left, right, or as a wing back. I’ve even played on both sides as a wing-back this season, so I think being able to show that versatility is important.” Future Ennis’ loan with Fleetwood will come to an end in June, and he has one more year on his current United deal. When asked about his future, he stated, “I think I’m just trying to take it as it goes. I’ve put myself in a pretty good position in terms of what I’ve done on this loan to moving forward, whether that be staying at United, moving on, or whatever happens.” He finished, “I’m open to anything, to be honest. Obviously, the option is in their favour, so I’ll sort of wait and see. I think there’ll be positives to either outcome, to be honest. So, yeah, I’m just looking forward to seeing what happens.” Ethan Ennis Fleetwood Season stats Games playedGoalsAssistsTotal mins 36642806 Source: transfermarkt.com The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
