Former United boss blown away by Carrick favourite’s form, planning summer assault on Old Trafford – report

Manchester United edged past Everton 1-0 on Monday night to make it five wins out of six under Michael Carrick. It was far from an easy night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the hosts bombarding United’s box with crosses and set-piece deliveries. Senne Lammens stood firm in goal, aided by Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire at the heart of the backline, as the Red Devils kept their third clean sheet in six games. What will have pleased the caretaker head coach was the pride shown by the players while defending their own box, which resembled a wrestling ring at times. Harry Maguire was a rock at the back vs Everton Interestingly, David Moyes seems to have been impressed with Maguire’s leadership at the back, and according to Teamtalk, he wants his club to try and sign him in the summer. The Englishman’s current deal expires once the current campaign concludes, and he will be available on a free as long as United do not agree a contract extension. He came close to leaving in January but for Carrick to block all exit routes. Apart from interest from Italy, and the Saudi Pro League, fellow Premier League club West Ham are also circling. Moyes wants Harry Maguire “Closer to home, Premier League clubs are circling. West Ham have long harboured admiration for Maguire and are prepared to revive their interest, viewing a free transfer as an ideal opportunity to bolster their defence. “Everton, too, have been backed as a strong contender, with David Moyes a big supporter of bringing him into the club.” But as relayed by The Peoples Person, the England international wants to stay at Old Trafford, and there has been a breakthrough in talks between the centre-back’s camp and INEOS. A one-year deal on a reduced wage packet is close to being agreed, which should be music to Carrick and the rest of the squad’s ears.
