Former United boss blown away by Carrick favourite’s form, planning summer assault on Old Trafford – report

Manchester United edged past Everton 1-0 on Monday night to make it five wins out of six under Michael Carrick. It was far from an easy night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the hosts bombarding United’s box with crosses and set-piece deliveries. Senne Lammens stood firm in goal, aided by Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire at the heart of the backline, as the Red Devils kept their third clean sheet in six games. What will have pleased the caretaker head coach was the pride shown by the players while defending their own box, which resembled a wrestling ring at times. He came close to leaving in January but for Carrick to block all exit routes. Apart from interest from Italy, and the Saudi Pro League, fellow Premier League club West Ham are also circling. A one-year deal on a reduced wage packet is close to being agreed, which should be music to Carrick and the rest of the squad’s ears.
