Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for a left-back this summer. Just the other day, Ben Jacobs revealed that among INEOS’ plans for United is signing a versatile option for that position. Now, only days after those revelations, a report from Caught Offside may have hinted at who that target could be. United lead chase for brilliant Bundesliga star According to the UK outlet, United are showing strong interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown. They report: “Man United and Arsenal are ready to compete for big-money full-back.” The piece adds that several top clubs are monitoring Brown’s situation, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City. Yet, in assessing the race, they admit: “As per our sources, Man United and Arsenal could be leading the way for the young, impressive defender.” A fee in the region of £65 million would, as per the report, tempt Frankfurt to cash in. With battle lines drawn, Old Trafford faithful will hope INEOS act swiftly and trump the Kroenkes in this race. And United certainly have a chance: given Arsenal’s depth at left-back, Brown may well question where he fits in with Piero Hincapie and Ricardo Calafiori already competing for minutes. Brown: a versatile LB For the Red Devils, Brown is undoubtedly the versatile left-back they crave. The 22-year-old can operate either as a traditional left-back or as a left wing-back. His game offers far more than defensive solidity. His stamina allows him to overlap tirelessly, delivering quality balls into the penalty area and remaining a consistent attacking threat for Frankfurt. Bundesliga.com even likened him to Joao Cancelo in his prime, remembering him in his Manchester City days. So far this season, Brown has already contributed nine goal involvements: six goals and three assists. He could prove the perfect alternative to Luke Shaw, while also freeing Patrick Dorgu to transition into a more advanced left-wing role, where the Dane impressed before injury curtailed his progress.
