Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon has a dream club he wants to join, even as he continues to be linked with a potential transfer to Manchester United. Gordon’s claim United are thought to be keen on bolstering the attacking department this summer, especially in the left-wing position. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively, are expected to leave United permanently. Sancho’s contract expires at the end of the campaign and it has been made clear that United will not exercise the option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months. Rashford has impressed in Spain and Barcelona are said to be keen on making his stay permanent. In addition to Gordon, other wingers mentioned to be on United’s radar are Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) and Matheus Mane (Wolverhampton Wanderers). A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United and Liverpool are both keen on signing Gordon in the upcoming window. Despite the Magpies’ inconsistency this term, the England international has notched an impressive 14 goals and five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. It was stated that United are prepared to fork out as much as £87m to beat Liverpool to Gordon’s signature. However, earlier this week, the player publicly declared that he is not aware of interest in him, indicating that he is fully committed to Newcastle. Gordon stressed that he wants to become a legend at Tyneside. However, TEAMtalk claim that the 24-year-old would not hesitate to seal a move to Liverpool if he were presented with such a chance. The report also notes that Newcastle have no desire to sanction an exit, which makes it even harder for United to successfully swoop in. Gordon transfer update TEAMtalk say, “Sources have confirmed to us that Gordon’s future remains firmly in Newcastle’s hands. The player penned a new five-year deal in late 2024, and crucially, there is no release clause in his contract – a significant deterrent for would-be suitors.” “Arsenal, Liverpool, and United remain long-term admirers, and the fact that Gordon harbours ambitions of playing at Anfield is no secret. However, sources close to the player and the club insist that prising Gordon away from St James’ Park will be no easy feat, with an ‘extraordinary’ offer required to lure him from Tyneside…” On Gordon’s statement that he wants to stay at St James’ Park, TEAMtalk report that it’s not a foregone conclusion, and he would “jump at the chance” to sign for Liverpool. Gordon’s contract runs until 2029. Any plans United had to move for Gordon appear to face overwhelming odds. The Red Devils may need to look elsewhere.
