Man Utd Tipped To Enter £105M Transfer Battle With Arsenal And Chelsea For “Astonishing” Forward

BACK David Tully Feb 18th 2026 Manchester United are one of three Premier League clubs interested in bringing former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez back from Spain, according to reports. Catalan publication Sport claims the Argentinian international has attracted interest from the Red Devils, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea. It was originally reported last month that the Gunners were pursuing Alvarez, who has been tipped to leave his current team, Atletico Madrid. In recent days, it has been suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side actually tabled a €120m (£105m) offer last summer for the striker, only to have their proposal rejected. Even so, they appear to be still interested in Alvarez, along with United and others. Is Alvarez the type of forward Man Utd need? The 26-year-old would certainly offer a different threat to Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian is very much a target man, despite possessing a good deal of pace. In contrast, Alvarez likes the ball to feet, and he is equally comfortable in wide areas as he is through the middle. To stand any chance of signing the World Cup winner, though, the Red Devils would first need to qualify for the Champions League, as the cost of such a transfer would be substantial. Alvarez has been described as “astonishing” Fellow countryman and former Man City forward Sergio Aguero addressed speculation about the player’s future back in October, whilst also paying tribute to the Atletico Madrid star’s abilities: “Atletico Madrid should enjoy having him on their side, and so should the fans. I wouldn’t speculate on future signings; I think this is the time to enjoy his achievements with Atletico. What Julian has achieved is astonishing. A player with the ability to move all over the pitch, he demonstrates an enormous level of sacrifice and talent.” Alvarez looks set to remain at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano for the time being, but things could change this summer.
